I still believe the Chinese are building these cities in order to keep their workers busy.

Workers who are employed, have money in their pockets, and are busy aren’t angry and formenting political unrest, which would be a threat to the regime.

Exactly. Also, the imbalance in gender, with many men and too few women, feeds that anger and unrest.

Sure; we have a large mall in the NJ meadowlands (next to Giants Stadium) complete with an indoor ski slope that was completed years ago and has never opened (it is eerie).

I’m sure those workers collected a couple of years’ pay for what amounted to a makework project...
