Muhlenberg Township man dies after shooting in Reading
Reading (PA) Eagle ^ | 6/28/14 | Dan Kelly

A Muhlenberg Township man accused of participating in the robbery and beating of a 60-year-old city man early Friday was fatally shot when one of the victim's neighbors came to the victim's aid. The wounded man, Christopher Vazquez, 24, was driven to Reading Hospital, where he died in the emergency room, police said.

The neighbor who fired the fatal shot was taken to City Hall and interviewed by police and District Attorney John T. Adams.

“The shooting remains under investigation, but we let the man go home,” Adams said. “At this point, the shooting appears to be justified.”

With Barry convincing everyone about the need to go out and buy a firearm, times have gotten harder for the criminals. Everyone has guns. Being a criminal isn’t a safe occupation anymore.

West Reading is a cockroach infestation. I dated a woman that was an ER nurse there... it’s bad.

Mama will show up in about five minutes. “That man had no right to shoot my son. He should’ve just called the po-lice and walked away. My child ain’t no angel, but he didn’t deserve to die.”

” but he didn’t deserve to die”

That would be ‘din’t’ these days.

She then added: “The car wash will be Tuesday at the 7-11.”

I wonder if he was an aspiring rapper, who was turning his life around, and he loved his mom and his dog?

I sent you a private message that wasn’t necessarily supposed to be private. Oh well, I guess you got it anyway. Mistakes happen.

I think I’ve been to Reading (if that is where the Crayola factory is); looked like a typical rust-belt city with the standard complement of gibsmedats.

You might be thinking of Easton. Actually, downtown is making quite a comeback - lots of antique stores, restaurants, etc.

Reading, OTOH, is a liberal’s paradise, i.e., a hellhole.

Thanks; I was in Reading years ago for a Reading Phillies game. The part of Easton I saw wasn’t too nice; that was about five years ago.

Easton’s change has been mostly the past three years.

Worth a Sunday drive.

Granted, you don’t want to go more than a few blocks from Center Square (safe, but not necessary).

[completely non-thread related post]

My aunt actually worked at Binney & Smith (where they manufactured crayons)... it was neat going to the open house employee picnic and seeing the crayons being made. The tourist front for Crayola is in downtown Easton, PA (away from the factory).

Easton has a bad section, "good" section and a nice downtown city square area, which in recalling from the late 1970's era, has much improved over the years).

Lafayette College is up on the hill and has all the ivy league kids. Downtown is like any other downtown. South Easton is where all the crime be at if you catch my drift.

Former Heavyweight Boxing Champ Larry Holmes hails from Easton, which Eastonians are quite proud of, a real salt of the earth local boy who done good. Unrelated to the thread, there was a "30 for 30" on ESPN that featured old 1980 footage leading up to the Holmes-Ali fight... that shows Larry's down-to-earth roots and the contrast to the absolute circus around Ali. It's really good, and on youtube in 2 parts... it is worth watching even if you are not a boxing fan.

Muhammad and Larry Part 1

Muhammad and Larry Part 2

(part 2 shows a lot of Larry's hometown and life as a young man - it's really worth seeing).
