Imagine the absurdity of a US citizen getting drafted and an illegal gets the vacated job.

Don't know how you can tie illegals to this in any objective way. Most 18 year olds are not working now but from my observations, some personal, they are not open to doing work that illegals currently do. They appear to desire a job in a cubicle or wearing a suit. It's not like it was when I was that age and picking fruit, cleaning up messes and labor jobs were not rejected.
IMO, the draft is a good thing still, and it teaches life lessons that will be used indefinitely by the young person no matter what the sex. and after a couple years of service the option is open to return to civilian life as a better person and a more valuable employee.
