On the way to early(6:30am) Mass this morning someone waiting for the traffic light made a left turn in front of me. It may have been a traffic light malfunction and granted it was pretty early but my light was and had been green and as I passed thru the intersection I noticed the other traffic signal was still red.
This is the first time that I had witnessed such a flagrant traffic violation in a long time so perhaps it was just a fluke but I think that the lawlessness is beginning to seep into the mainstream and soon the veneer of civility we now take for granted is bound to evaporate. The only question is how quickly will it erode.
The time is probably very short now, I think that each of us needs to decide if we will descend into the abyss of incivility and lawlessness with the rest of society or whether we will choose instead to remain true to our principles, convictions and ideals and stand against the tide despite all hope.
Here are the quotes and a link to the video that got me thinking about the ongoing devolving of our once great nation:
Michael Cannon in a House Judiciary committee hearing said:
That is certainly something that no one wants to contemplate. If the people come to believe that the government is no longer constrained by the laws, then they will conclude that neither are they.
Cannon also said:
it is very dangerous for the president to wantonly ignore the laws, to try to impose obligations upon people that the legislature did not approve.
