How about several hundred American Christians going to rebuild the churches that were burned down? That would show that we do care, and Jesus would be pleased.

Yes I know they failed but there is no reason that, with modern means, it will fail again.
In the words I read in Wikipedia, it doesn’t talk about burning churches in the Koran. It doesn’t talk about killing people. It talks about fasting and glorifying God or Allah. It talks about sacrifice. I think that those who are doing this kind of stuff are making it up as they go. As an observer, it appears to me that this crew is a jealous group that thinks that the only way is to tear down every one else and their beliefs. Glad I am not one of them.
One tip: the Quran is really two sets of passages. At the beginning is where it was "revealed". The Mecca chapters are the "peace and mercy" ones. Then Mo was driven out of Mecca to Medina, and started making his living as a bandit and caravan robber:those are the "slay the infidel" chapters.
