Most liberals — at least mainstream liberals — believe you should be able to say anything you like (other than yelling fire in a crowded theater), no matter how much it offends and, for the most part, no matter how seditious. They also believe you should be able to publish almost anything as a matter of right.

This has been out of date for a while. Liberals implement speech codes everywhere they are in power.

I really don’t like the term “Modern Liberalism”

In the 20th Century the term “Liberalism” was coopted and adopted by the Progressive Movement after the term “Progressive” became too closely associated with Socialism/Communism (rightly so) and was a net negative for those seeking power and policies under its banner.

Funny enough, given that “Liberalism” was completely trashed in the 1970s and 80s (culminating with Reagan’s use of it as an epithet) the Progressive Movement returned to using the term “Progressive.”

“Liberalism” (in the classic sense) is a perfectly good word that was completely corrupted to serve political ends.
