Well, we can be thankful that the current flag was a clear and obvious winner.

If symmetry is your preference, I always thought the original British design was pretty good. A little busy, though. I prefer a simplified version:

It’s a nice looking flag, but a secular symbol is always a step down from a Cross. Admittedly, we have the same problem.

Gorgeous flag....and a fitting companion for your superb national anthem..I wish the USA would switch to “God Bless America”

It's also very interesting how the flag of Panama came about. The U.S. intervention (naval support etc) came earlier than expected, and the pro-independence/pro USA faction needed to come up with a flag literally overnight, that could be seen on govt buildings across the country the very next morning. It needed to be explained in a simple telegraph message. The wife of a Panamanian official came up with the simple design. Literally overnight, Panama had a new flag.

Happy Canada Day! Me, I’m all for this new-age diversity inclusiveness stuff, and while it would be presumptuous to suggest improvements in our neighbor’s flag, well...it’s just that not every province has maple trees. But every province does have hockey sticks. Just sayin’.

I actually like the aesthetics of this one...
