Republican: 'No problem' for path to legal status
The Hill ^ | July 2 2014 | Rebecca Shabad

Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-Texas) said Wednesday there would be “no problem” in getting the House to pass legislation that would provide a pathway to legal status for immigrants in the U.S. illegally, adding that a pathway to citizenship is "potentially doable."

“I think there's no problem getting through the House a pathway to legal status. A pathway to citizenship is going to be tougher, but I think it is potentially doable, if we can show the American people that the border is secure,” Farenthold said on MSNBC’s “The Daily Rundown.” “My constituents feel betrayed by the promise that Reagan made, that if we grant amnesty, we'll then secure the border. We obviously didn't do that.”

Parents who brought their children to the United States illegally are a “very sympathetic problem” Farenthold added. “We've educated them in our schools, and they become a burden on society if they can't get a job.”

The Republican said the border is “relatively secure” but “not secure enough,” given the roughly 52,000 unaccompanied children from Central America who have crossed into the U.S. since October.

Asked if the current crisis hurts immigration reform prospects, Farenthold said, “I think, politically, it may,” but he stressed it could be addressed without a comprehensive bill.

“I don't think you'd have any problem getting legislation through the House to have expedited deportation procedures, getting more judges down to prosecute or hear these cases,” said Farenthold, who said it could take years before the children get a hearing otherwise.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told the GOP caucus last week that the House would not hold a vote on immigration reform this year. President Obama announced on Monday that he is taking executive action to fix the system as much as he can himself.

Farenthold suggested he supports the Obama administration’s request for $2 billion in funds to fix the situation at the border, but he said, “We've got to speed up the process.”

On Tuesday, protestors blocked three buses carrying immigrant families to a border patrol processing station in California. Farenthold called protests in response to the crisis “uninformed.”

“This is a humanitarian crisis,” he said. “The whole country needs to step up and help out.”

I know that Ann Coulter’s name is “mud” these days - with good reason - but she hit the nail on the head when she described incessantly pro-invader republicans as 14 year old boys continuously caught masturbatng by their mother....

Farenthold, you moron, you'll never staunch the flow that way. Keep giving them what they came for and you'll keep getting more.

The only problem might be with the folks back home who elect you, congressman.

Faking some border security with a piece of legislation would be a trick.

I still anticipate some amnesty vote-guest worker vote after the election in November in a lame duck-voter proof session of Congress.

Another traitor.

Does he want to take in some of these illegals? Let him get the scabies, lice and whatever other communicable diseases the illegals are bringing in.

but I think it is potentially doable, if we can show the American people that the border is secure,”

The only way you'll EVER convince me that the border is secure is to FLY me there and show me the 20 foot high wall that goes 20 ft deep underground, with 2 18 ft fences and 2 18 foot deep trenches before the wall, then show me how every step of the process is monitored electronically with the Guard for the next 10 years to turn back or shoot (those who insist on getting across) the ILLEGAL ALIENS (not undocumented immigrants, which they are neither).

We've heard that 'It's secure! Oh happy day the border is secure!' far to many times in the past to believe the lying liars in Wash. D. C. even one more time.

"TRUST BUT VERIFY!!!"

Americas greed for cheep fruit pickers, landscaper workers and other non-skilled labor has come back to bite us in the butt, hard.

years ago when I was young they could have fenced the border w/ guard towers and fired on anybody trying to cross. LBJs Great Society put a huge dent in the cheep Negro labor pool at this point in history.

Obviously the temptation to acquire Mexican “slaves” was just too strong. Now, we face the possibility of them becoming the masters unless something is done along the lines strict border protection.

Secure the border and remove the illegals that have come in since Reagan’s time. Once that happens, we can talk “reform.” Anything until then would be premature.

I can guarantee you that he would not be re elected. It seems the border is an issue that pretty much everyone I know is in agreement on. People are sick of seeing this happen when they are having a hard time getting a job and making ends meet. They see this as betrayal.

“I think there's no problem getting through the House a pathway to legal status. A pathway to citizenship is going to be tougher, but I think it is potentially doable,

In a rational world, anyone playing that legal status, but no citizenship game would immediately be removed from office and flogged. Just as big a lie and deception as the "it's not amnesty" ruse many have been spouting for years.

They just can't shut up about this issuse, and they can't stop putting forth one ridiculous ruse after another in an attempt to grant amnesty without calling it amnesty.
