S.F. police investigating second Pride hate crime

San Francisco police are investigating a second alleged hate crime from Pride weekend, officials said Wednesday.

On Saturday night, a member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the order of queer nuns who put on the annual Pink Saturday party, was collecting donations for the event near the corner of 18th and Castro streets, said Officer Albie Esparza, a police spokesman.

Police are treating the attack as a hate crime because the sexual orientation of the victims appeared to be the only motive for the attack, Esparza said.

And yet, when a group of black kids beats up an elderly white peson while yelling slurs, the police and press go out of their way to NOT label it a hate crime. Whether something "appears to be the only motive" is in the eye of the biased beholder.

"The suspects were described as three men with ponytails and a woman, all between the ages of 18 and 25."

Black men usually don't have ponytails, but neither do Conservative men.

That leaves several other varieties of non-whites.

Its beating a dead horse, but the media never passes up an opportunity to paint white males as screaming bigots, so the lack of racial description is noted.

Someone posted a comment under the article suggesting the attackers were "typical right-wing perverts who are obsessed with what goes on in everyone else's bedroom."

That's strange, this whole Pride Day is about as public and in-your-face as it gets.

If one reads the comments, it would seem the majority view is that the perpetrators should be executed.

Never,ever,*ever* would I,as a juror,vote “guilty” on any charge concerning a “hate crime”.That is simply because I absolutely reject the validity of all such laws.I don't give a rat's hindquarters whether a guy assaults someone because he was having a bad day or because the assaultee was a pervert.I'd decide the case mainly on whether or not the evidence shows that an illegal assault occurred and,if the evidence shows that,on the severity of the injuries.And that goes for an assaultee who's a pervert...one who's a minority...one who's female and one who's just like me.

Exactly. 18th Street and Castro Street borders the Mission District, enclave of latinos. There are many latinos who wear ponytails. Don't think they're wusses, though. They have gang-sign tatoos and don't shy from a fight. The latino culture there is strongly pro-family and anti-gay. Then again, the perps could have been white gang members. That area, close to Dolores Street is well known as a home for Hells Angels motorcycle club going back fifty years. I don't know if they've been active lately, because even they can't stomach the gay incursion into the area.

Still active, although their headquarters is now a couple miles away. Article about a bust for attacking someone in SF a couple months ago. Not blaming them for what happened to the queers, could have been anyone. Angels are mostly mellow unless provoked.

I wonder if the SF police would be looking for a “hate crime” if a black man punched someone dressed as black faced minstrel mocking people in the street.
