Business Insider ^ | July 3 2014 | Melia Robinson and Andy Kiersz

There are some people who are proud to be American, and then there are entire cities that really bust out the red, white, and blue like it's nobody's business.

With the Fourth of July around the corner, we found the most patriotic cities in the U.S. of A.

We created a patriotism score for cities around the U.S. by looking at three categories: the percentage of people who are veterans, according to the 2012 American Community Survey; the percentage of residents 18 and over who voted in the 2012 presidential election; and the ranking of the best cities for Fourth of July celebrations from Wallet Hub. We made a weighted average of the three scores, with 50% going to veterans, 30% going to voting turnout, and 20% from the Fourth of July celebrations. Let's see which cities have the most American spirit »

KEYWORDS:
About one third of the cities are in Florida, and I'm pretty sure they are all conservative strongholds, maybe freepers in those cities can verify.

Seemed like the list was weighted to FL and the northwest. Mostly missed flyover country. I was glad to see Omaha made the list.

The list is very heavy with NW Florida towns. I grew up in DeFuniak Springs and when I was a kid they always had the Veterans Day parade. I can remember Congressman Bob Sikes standing on the street corner and making a speech to the entire crowd without any sound amplifying device. His booming voice being heard by all.

I drove through DeFuniak this morning and noticed temporary signs warning of heavy traffic for the parade route. I don’t even know when the parade is.

Florida cities are no surprise....most are cities with a large military and retired military population. Also...these are the areas in Florida with the fewest illegals and Third Worlders

The difference between Orlando area and Melbourne-Space Coast area is telling. Living in Orlando...going to Space Coast is like going back to America

I'd question the criteria as well. There is a huge parade and program in Provo, Utah which sells out a 40K seat stadium every year with at least that many more lining the streets for the parade. Glen Beck mentioned it on more than one of his programs.

There are only four of these cities located in non-Obama voting states: Sumter, SC, Billings, MT, Omaha, NE and St. Louis, MO

As far as I can see all the other 21 are located either in GOP voting areas within the Obama states and/or have a large military presence with a single solitary exception: Barnstable, MA.

I know you all think Boston is this liberal cesspool...but they know how to throw a 4th of July Party.

And, the Patriots are, you know, from Mass. How could they not be on this list?

The article says:

14. Punta Gorda, FL
This summer marks four years since the city of Punta Gorda was nearly destroyed by Hurricane Charley but that happened in 2004.

Seemed to me....their idea of "Patriotism" had to do with how many fireworks and parades they had.............

What a worthless article...............

Fwiw......and I think it’s worth a lot........we have fought the good fight for our little corner of the world here on the Spacecoast.

Among other things.......the community of churches and people were visible to and steadfastly prayed against the abortion clinics in our towns......we were a very visible presence.......risks were taken

The abortion clinics are no more......they have left this area.

Also, the whole community from Melbourne to Titusville fought the Planned Parenthood version of Sex Ed curriculum arriving to our schools.......We took it to school board meetings......we circulated the curriculum to parents around the county.....we invited parents to our homes to let them know what was going on in the schools .........20 years ago

Planned Parenrhood was shamed into withdrawing their junk......and the school board replaced it with an abstinence only curriculum.

Small battles, large battles have been waged in our little burgs......and I dare say if push comes to shove yet again......we will be ready!
