Anthony Cumia, Host of Opie and Anthony, Fired by SiriusXM After Racist Twitter Rant

The show's over. The satellite radio company announced Friday that it axed the DJ after he fired off a string of racist tweets about a black woman he claimed punched him in Times Square. It was not immediately clear if Cumia's longtime co-host, Gregg (Opie) Hughes, would be allowed to continue their program.

Anthony Cumia was pulled off SiriusXM after the foul-mouthed shock jock went on a racist Twitter tear against a black woman he claimed punched him in Times Square.

The 53-year-old DJ, who's half of the Opie and Anthony show, was axed by the satellite radio company after Cumia fired off a string of angry missives about the alleged attack, calling the woman an “animal X” and a “savage.”

“SiriusXM has terminated its relationship with Anthony Cumia of the Opie & Anthony channel,” Patrick Reilly, senior vice president of communications for the company, said in a statement Friday.

Reilly said Cumia was fired late Thursday “after careful consideration of his racially charged and hate-filled remarks on social media.”

It was not immediately clear if his co-host, Gregg (Opie) Hughes, would continue the show without his partner.

The company found Cumia's bigotted remarks “abhorrent” and said Cumia’s actions were “wholly inconsistent with what SiriusXM represents,” Reilly said.

But Cumia argued on Twitter that he was only speaking his mind and that he was the real victim in the ordeal.

“Sirius decided to cave and fire me,” he tweeted on Friday. “Welcome to bizarro world. Fired for X that wasn’t even on the air & wasn’t illegal. So, who’s next?”

He said he wouldn’t apologize for any of the tweets he wrote since the alleged attack early Tuesday.

Cumia claims the woman punched him in the face after she realized she was in one of several pictures he had been taking at the Crossroads of the World.

“Then she punched me 5 more times,” the radio host tweeted. “She’s lucky I was a white legal gun owner or she’d be dead. Then 5 blacks started giving me X!”

Police were never called to the scene and no witnesses have come forward to speak of the alleged assault. Cumia argued that the alleged assailant sparked the race war by calling him a “white X”.

Cumia had claimed he didn’t pursue pressing charges because the woman — who he referred to as a “X” and a “savage” in a slew of tweets — because of his race.

“It doesn’t work! White guy/black ‘girl’. We’re doomed!” he wrote.

“It’s really open season on white people in this day in age,” he wrote in another post. “No recourse. Fight back and you’re a racist. The predators know this. Good luck.”

Cumia, who he hoped the woman would be shot, said he was unfairly labeled a racist.

“The switch to violence is immediate. No discussion, just violence,” he wrote. “When will THAT be addressed? Oh, right, never. Slavery did it? Oh, ok.”

In April, Cumia celebrated 20 years on the air with his co-host, Greg (Opie) Hughes. It was not immediately clear if Opie would continue the show without his partner.

A source said he was advised to keep quiet about the ordeal, but he did make one veiled referrence to the ordeal on his official Twitter account.

“Just spent a glorious day photographing the Wood Covered Bridges of Vermont,” Opie tweeted Thursday. “Did I miss anything?”

The comedians appeared several times on New York radio before they began their stint on the satellite channe

He’s far from left wing. Crude, yes, but he’s a hardcore libertarian.

He was stupid for posting the rant, as it was sure to end like this in this environment. However, I’m canceling my subscription Monday as well. If you stray from the politically correct line, you don’t stand a chance. If the American people don’t start punishing companies for caving to the vocal minority who demand firings ever time they hear something they don’t like, speech will continue to be stifled to the point we’ll only be able to hear one viewpoint.

We are not far from that now. Free speech will not end due to government. We are doing it to ourselves by staying silent when others demand firings.

Sirius didn’t fire him for being anti-religious. That was perfectly acceptable to them.

Is this the guy who has been on “Redeye”? I didn’t realize he was such a whiney pussy.

Redeye radio has nothing to do with the Opie and Anthony show on XM.
