The psychological effects of disorientation without command elements, helplessness if wounded (no medic), and isolation in the face of enemy forces (no radio) can give the attackers an advantage.
In cross trained units with a cultural background of taking initiative (free societies) this is less effective than in those from highly structured (totalitarian) cultures.
