Texas Gov. Rick Perry has some nerve. He had the gall to assert in an appearance on ABC’s This Week that the virtual refugee crisis on America’s southern border is not simply a legal problem but a problem of border security. Moreover, Perry seemed to be getting the tinfoil hat treatment when he stood by his claim that the White House doesn’t seem to mind this crisis all that much.
Perry began his contentious interview about border security with ABC’s Martha Raddatz by outlining the multiple petitions he sent Washington seeking redress for the issue of unaccompanied minors crossing the border illegally.
Perry insisted, while conceding that Texas currently has seven border patrol agents per mile, it is not enough.
“This is about a law,” Raddatz pushed back. “This isn’t necessarily about border patrol, this is about a law.” She noted that migrant children from non-contiguous nations, like Honduras and El Salvador, must be taken into the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services in order to comply with a law which George W. Bush signed in 2008 and which Barack Obama is seeking to amend.
Perry didn’t take the bait. “The rule of law is that the Constitution requires the United States to secure the border,” he said.
Raddatz pressed. “Isn’t this a backlog in the courts,” she asked. “Doesn’t that have to be addressed first?”
It does seem self-evidently true that the law protecting migrant children would not come into play if those migrant children were unable to pierce America’s border security so easily. This point did not get a thorough parsing, however, because Perry committed a cardinal sin in the next breath when he suggested that malicious negligence on Obama’s part was at play.

The governors along the border have been prevented by the Feds from enforcing the security and the Feds have stood down for years.
Texas can’t have a retired space shuttle but we can have tens of thousands of illegal immigrant orphans.
I seem to have missed somewhere when someone challenged any one of these “blame Bush’s 2008 law” drones... If that is the case, why is this surge happening now, SIX years later???
After today, I can no longer stand Martha Raddatz. In comparison, Candy Crowley is an impressive professional. JMHO
I would agree with all of that, except that maybe Raddatz has been worse….but I get your main points and you are right.
What I didn’t like was the HotAir headline. I thought it was misleading. Better header would have been “Perry Rebuffs Raddatz Ambush Attempt” or something like that. Perry didn’t back down - was polite, but firm. Raddatz was shrill and full of fatuous Obama talking points.
The southern border is secure and Area 51 is secure. How many hundreds of people breach Area 51 each day?

Perry is correct but I wish he would do more than talk
So far just about the only thing Perry has done is run his mouth. Perry should be hounded by huge mobs of angry citizens everyday, in his office and everywhere he shows his face in public, until he calls out the State Guard and State Militia ,declares a State of Emergency or a State of Invasion under Article 4, section 7 of the Texas Constitution. If he fails to do so in a timely manner he should be impeached and removed from office.
IMHO, Obunga is SO busy seeing to it that muslims in the Middle East achieve and retain the upper hand, and that OUR assinine rules of engagement keep the odds stacked against OUR people and to the advantage of our enemies, that he has scant opportunity left to address what’s happening on our southern border.
Furthermore, he has HIS people in charge down there, who KNOW that his goal is to not only swamp our system, a la Cloward & Piven, but to guarantee HOARDS of new democRAT voters.
He actually needs to pay little attention to what’s happening down there, knowing that the aliens will keep coming, and his minions will keep dispersing them throughout the Country, and his fingerprints are visible on little to none of it....and the brain dead democRAT voters will actually see through none of it, being too busy keeping up with the Kardashi-Lohans, et al, to even have a clue that their Country and their freedoms are being slid out from under them hour by hour.
And if this opinion qualifies me for a tinfoil hat, bring it on; I’ll wear it proudly.....right up to the day Obunga declares Martial Law and pronounces himself President in Perpetuity and dons a loony toons uniform with a chest full of tin medals like all the other tinpot dictators in Africa’s history have worn!

I share the same opinion, and when I’m not wearing my tin foil hat, I keep it well within reaching distance.
When Rick is right he’s right.
It would do his political future wonders if he would call the Texas National Guard to the border and enforce the law. All the time telling Prez Hussein that Texas will take care of it and to sit down and shut up.
