Is abortion as abhorrent in God’s eyes as sacrificing your children to Molech? (Serious question)
Interesting question because, while sin is sin, there are degrees of sin. But that is another subject. So is abortion the same as sacrificing children to Molech?
According to scripture, sacrificing children to Molech is "profaning" the name of God (Lev 18:21, Lev 20:3). According to Webster profane means to treat (something sacred) with abuse, irreverence, or contempt : desecrate. So sacrificing children to Molech is viewed by God as treating Him (not the children) with contempt. When one considers that children (all children) are gifts from God, then to kill that child is to treat God with contempt-even in the case of rape or incense.
So the short answer is, yes, it is the same. Not because we kill the child although that is sin of murder. Instead, far worst, we profane God's name because we hold the gift that God has given us in contempt.
Now if we want talk about homosexual acts, that is an abomination (absolutely intolerable) to the Lord. In both cases, Molech sacrifices or homosexual acts, the punishment was death.
BTW-It shows how far we have fallen when "Christians" don't stand up against abortion (all abortion) or homosexual acts. How many of us Christians are willing to tell a rape victim that she shouldn't abort? We hold God in contempt and support acts that are intolerable to God. And yet there are some in the church today (none on this site) that think this is just fine. We are really in the time of Jeremiah:
...
Jer 7:8 "Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail.
Jer 7:9 Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, make offerings to Baal, and go after other gods that you have not known,
Jer 7:10 and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, 'We are delivered!'only to go on doing all these abominations?
