The biggest difference in the bar chart is the whole point of this article. The mass immigration of a century ago were people looking to better thier lives in America by working their butts off. My ancestors were among them.

Some of the latest wave of immigrantswants to do the same. But way too many of them are out to better their lives through welfare (thanks LBJ). And way too many of them are criminals. Good democrats, they are.

Milton Friedman said, "You can't have free immigration simultaneously with the welfare state." We have both.

There was no welfare state a century ago.
