In New Haven, some see sagging pants as statement, others as fueling stereotype
The New Haven Register ^ | July 6, 2014 | Shahid Abdul-Karim

“The saggin’ started in the prison where inmates couldn’t wear belts, but in jail culture things started to transcend,” said community activist Leonard Jahad, the state’s top New Haven probation supervisor,

“The left pant leg rolled up meant you’re in a certain gang and both pant legs rolled up meant something else,“ Jahad said. “When pants are down like the kids wear on the streets, in prison, it means you are available to the next man for sexual activity.”

Smith, who’s also entertainment director of the youth development organization Ice the Beef, said he and his peers don’t view the sagging pants as a sexual signal, or anything more than a style choice.

“We’re not saggin’ our pants to be disrespectful. Nobody says anything when people wear short jean skirts; no one cares,” he said. “It’s no different when our mothers and grandmothers wear the big hats to church. It’s fashion for them and the sag is our fashion.”

Here we have an 18 year old working in the "youth development" field, dressed like a thug, promoting inmate-culture, while using a racial slur to describe himself ... God help us.

Paragons of virtue.

“When pants are down like the kids wear on the streets, in prison, it means you are available to the next man for sex”

I had to LOL “HA HA!” at that.

I really wish these “fashions” would die. It’s been 20 years of the same basic fashion for all teens in all aspects; you’d think they’d start doing the normal thing and say “that’s so ‘90s; out of it!”

Nope, no such luck this time around.

This is the least of New Haven’s problems. They are a sanctuary city, and are about to be buried by Central American illegal aliens.

Whenever I see it I see: A baby stepper that hasn’t grown up, because you can’t take (anything) but baby steps w/your pants down your legs.. one also can’t run from the cops very well either..

I call it a driving hazard.

Almost wrecked from laughing so hard the first one I saw.

blacks are becoming a shrinking minority, let them go and they will become irrelevant. High % in jail, unemployed, loss of political power to hispanics yada, yada, yada.

That’s why Sharptounge has relevance for them. He yells the loudest.

"...in prison, it means you are available to the next man for sexual activity.”

I thought tramp stamps indicating the female is ready to spread 'em were bad enough, but for some punk to wear his pants like that means he's "avalaible" is ....

Words fail me.

What really started with the plummers when they go underneath a broken sink, has become popular with the hip-hop and gansta crowd.

It IS different, you moron; wearing hats to church doesn't mean we have to look at your mothers' and grandmothers' underwear. I don't want to see it.

The same goes for the current unfathomable trend of women showing off their bra straps as though they're fashion accessories.

I think they look exactly like toddlers after they have taken a dump in their diapers.

Weighs the pants down, you know.

Too bad we can’t just round up all the scumbags and run them through a grinder and feed them to the crabs.

LOL. I just love these articles for the quotes. Trying to turn showing your underwear or bare ass in public into some greater societal statement. I bet if this guy's grandmother went to church with her boobs hanging out he wouldn't call it "just another fashion statement."

Try asking for lingerie hooks to sew on your tops. ~Not a clue, big zero on that one.

SLOBS RULE!

Between the gigantic flumps on their hips under skin tight pants and rolley-polley waistlines, it’s getting ugly out here.

I think bras for backboobs would be a blockbuster money maker.

*I have to stop now. I’m getting uglier by the minute.
