It sounds like a dream: Work part-time while maintaining the same standard of living.

Google co-founder Larry Page thinks it should be a reality for everyone.

The tech titan and his co-founder, Sergey Brin, sat down for a rare joint interview that was moderated by fellow billionaire, Vinod Khosta, and posted to YouTube.

"If you really think about the things you need to make yourself happy -- housing, security, opportunity for your kids ... it's not that hard for us to provide those things," Page said. "The idea that everyone needs to work frantically to meet peoples' needs is not true."

Page said the world should be living in a "time of abundance" in which robots and machines could help meet everyone's basic needs much more easily.

Oh Gee, these guys, with none of the wisdom of life, are going to tell us where we might find the wisdom of life and the happiness that is the byproduct thereof.

How lucky we are!

So does Google kick its employees to the parking lot with a full day’s pay when 2pm hits? No? I didn’t think so.

Larry,

Why even work part-time with our welfare state?

May as well let all these illegals in so they don’t have to work either.

Yeah, Larry...if you have working models of these "security machines" or these"opportunity robots," I'll be more than happy to clear a few minutes on my calendar for you. If you can produce a working model of a "happiness-tron," well, I'd love to see one of those, too.

You know...considering this Page guy is supposed to be some kind of genius, some of the dumb things he manages to say can be really surprising.

What we are seeing is that wealth is losing its value.

If any college geek can be a billionaire? What good is it being a billionaire?

Ergo life is making a turning point. Wealth as a thing to be sought is losing its attractiveness.

Coming soon...young men and women will be heading to the mountain caves and convents, respectively.

That is where the real value of this life can be found.

Many will fall away, but smart people will seek Him because He is the REAL bottom line.

For me...I will gather up my cats and head for the mountain caverns.

Wasn’t this the plot to Frank Herbert’s Dune pre-history? The Robots made everybody apathetic and then other people with robots took over.

Maybe the google guys are science fiction fans and it’s gotten to their heads.

So how much time did Sergey and Larry put in to establish Google? I’ll bet it was more than 30 hours per week. Something happens to liberals when they become filthy rich, and the reason is they never had any core Christian values to begin with.
I’ll bet the Koch bothers still work as much as they want and so will I. It is none of your f...... business what we do Google, one of the reasons I no longer use that search engine. While they are off on “their 30 hour” work week, the computers are they’re watching our every move. Nice try guys, nice try. Go to your island and leave us alone, we can think and act for ourselves.

They know exactly what they are talking about.

Work hours, Productivity, Competition mean nothing.

You need merely show up to your job, and the state will decide what you will be compensated, based on your utility to the state.

This is really easy now. The Fed has the power to determine the value of ANYTHING. Capital is obsolete; Clout is King.

So sez the .1%. Will this utopia extend to the other 7 billion people in the world? Will they only have to work 20 hours a week in the rice paddys of Cambodia or the yam patches of Central Africa?

What is it about billionaires that so many of them spout loopy ideas? Soros (though I think he’s not so much loopy as just plain bad), Buffet, Ross Perot, the Google guys, Zuckerwhatshisface over at Facebook?

Of course he’s right. We should not have to work as hard as we do. In fact, it would be best if everything we ever wanted tumbled out of the sky from a big horn. Who could argue with that?
