These are the men and women who are supposed to keep watch over the nation’s spies. And they have no idea about the latest revelations of inappropriate NSA snooping.
The newest revelations about the National Security Agency may be shocking to the rest of us. To the congressional overseers of the American intelligence services, not so much. They’re still catching up from a holiday weekend. Or maybe they’ve just become numb to the whole spying-on-ordinary-people thing.

OTOH criminal illegal aliens, al Qaeda,

We really should think about applying the same treatment to senators that we do to our disabled pets. (Although I’d gladly do to a senator what I wouldn’t do to my dog.)

... these Congress dudes are mostly old. Older than I, which I assure you is really old.
Most have had hair transplants ala Joey 'Plugs' Biden.
There are a few Doctors amongst the aging lawyers in Congress. They report that many of these doddering codgers are on various geriatric drug programs that render their minds chopped liver.
It is no mystery that these fellows and gals are out of it. Check out Cochran of MS. Guy is senile. They do what their staffs tell them. Most sign what is put before them without reading it ... much less understanding it.
There are also a goodly number of serious drunks (e.g. A Republican I shall only identify by his initials (J.O.H.N. B.O.E.H.N.E.R) Glenn Beck (an AA alcoholic himself) says he's going to expose them. Yeah, Glenn? When?
The country is run by the Federal bureaucracies. They write the bills ... like Obamacare. No one knows what's in it or any other bill. As Pelosi said ... "Pass it ... we'll figure it out later." She by the way, is pretty much an idiot. Botox does affect the brain. But not her finances. She has smoothed her way into the Feinstein-Boxer Billionaires Club ... ya see, Don C, these broads have husbands who front the business end of the operation.
