With students running a higher risk of obesity and hunger during their summer break, Prince George’s County schools have joined an effort to provide the youngsters with free breakfast and lunch.

More than 60 schools throughout the county will serve the meals until Aug. 1.

“Providing continuous meals throughout the summer helps children receive the nutrition they need to learn, play and grow,” Kevin M. Maxwell, Chief Executive Officer for Prince George’s County Public Schools said in a statement.

These penal colonies should just abandon any pretence of education and just identify themselves as the juvenile prisons they are. Couldn't you just imagine how joyful your child would be going to this happy place? (Note the extensive windows to allow for maximum sunshine)

Can you imagine Jefferson being able to see this as he was writing the Declaration of Independence.
We’ve become a Nation of Dependence!

Yet we continue to pay for food stamps for the whole family, all year, as if they are using the money to feed the children.

“Prince George’s County schools have joined an effort to provide the youngsters with free breakfast and lunch.”

No. Taxpayers are providing free breakfast and lunch throughout the summer. Taxpayers are also paying the lazy employees to sit around all day and maybe work 2 hours a day if that.

These are not schools. They do not educate. They are taxpayer funded centers that provide paychecks for little if any work and a place for young people to hang out and get free stuff.

There is little if any actual learning going on.

I believe the way the program works is that free breakfasts and lunches are provided to everyone under the age of 18. Of course Food Stamps/EBTs are not reduced—that would be mean.

“With students running a higher risk of obesity and hunger during their summer break,...”

Please reconcile this statement to itself.

If obesity is such problem...maybe the government shouldn’t feed the kids?

Our government at it again

In Sunland Park NM, the schools give free breakfast and lunch to anyone, student or no, under the age of 18 who shows up. In reality they feed the parents too. Remind me again why we also give out food stamps?

As to your note about windows, that is a two pronged issue. First, after tax payers build what is usually the nicest building in the neigbhborhood the “community” destroys any glass they can get to. Second, energy codes have evolved to require insulated windows that are expensive to install and expensive to replace when issue #1 presents itself.

When I was a priso - er,... ah,... - a “student” in these hellholes a few decades back, I used to daydream about nuclear terrorism.

If it wasn't for that darned typo in the Declaration of Independence, we'd realize that this, in fact, was the intent.

Was in the local Dollar Tree last night. Lady in front of me had a cart loaded with applesauce, fruit cups and macaroni which she paid for with a LoneStar food card. Comment was made that she must really like applesauce. Said she buys as much as she can of these staples on her LoneStar card the first of every month and donates it all to our local VFW which provides free lunch to Veterans and their families.

She also commented that she is disabled - obviously older and could barely get around with a cane - has no income but is able to grow a small garden in her back yard and God provides for her so this is her way to give back.

Pretty interesting IMO.

First, after tax payers build what is usually the nicest building in the neigbhborhood the “community” destroys any glass they can get to.

Back in the 1970s, when this school was opened, Beltsville was a nice, suburban area. The flight from PG County hadn't yet started.

Second, energy codes have evolved to require insulated windows that are expensive to install and expensive to replace when issue #1 presents itself.

Energy codes from the 70s? Really?

That looks like my old high school, Friendly Senior high in PG county, on Allentown Road off Indianhead highway.
I was there a few years ago visiting (my brother wouldn’t get out of the car) and noticed a new building.
After meeting the black principal and showing him my ‘Premiere’ ring (first class to graduate) and nothing to myself that the ratio of one black kid to, say, 40 white kids had converted, I asked him about the new, large building.
It’s a nursery, of course, so all of the ‘single mothers’ .don’t miss out on the learning experience. And I further understand they went to school uniforms because of kids wearing gang colors. The police came while I was there and hauled off a truculent scholar.

Are there a lot of “undocumented” migrant children in Prince George County? Just wondering.

Boy, and here I thought you were going to paint all public school employees as lazy good-for-nothings with that broad brush.

Oh, wait...
