Trial opens for man accused in child porn production

Jury selection began this morning in the federal trial of a Virginia Beach man accused of offering women money to produce child pornography for him.

Robert H. Scott Jr., who also went by Mike Pyro, faces 28 counts of production, distribution and receipt of child pornography and related charges.

Three women who are expected to testify previously admitted that they took sexually explicit videos of very young children and sent them to Scott by phone and email, according to court filings. One victim was 1 year old. Others were 2, 3, and 5.

Scott met the women on Facebook in the spring of 2013 by offering money in exchange for sex parties, according to the indictment.

The women would meet Scott at a motel for the party, which he filmed, but when it was over Scott refused to pay. The women said he offered them $6,000, the court records say.

Scott is accused of threatening to publish the photos of the sex acts on the Internet if they did not send him sex videos of the children. He also demanded that the women bring the children to the next sex party, the records say.

One woman brought the 1-year-old boy to a motel sex party. She said Scott told her he would pay her $150,000, which he never did, the records say.

Because of the disturbing nature of the evidence, U.S. District Judge Robert G. Doumar ordered that extra jurors be brought in to ensure being able to select an unbiased panel.
