Housing of Migrant Children "Un-American": California Senator

About 200 people rallied Tuesday in support of migrant children temporarily housed at a shelter at the Naval Base Ventura County.

The rally came as state legislators toured the facility where 568 minors were being housed. The federal government has contracted with the Southern California base to have the children housed for 120 days. Most of the children have been reunited with family members already in the United States. Some have been sent back to their home countries.

"We weren't even aware that the facility was even here," said state Senator Kevin DeLeon, D-Los Angeles. "It serves no one to have a child in a detention center no more than two weeks. Quite frankly, it's un-American."

A group of counter-demonstrators set up outside the gates to the base, angry that the children, mostly from Central America, are being housed there and are not being immediately sent home.

"There is a legal means to get here and they ought to be following that, just like everybody else," said Robert Miller, a Ventura County resident.

Jessica Flanagan came out to support the children.

"This is a humanitarian issue," she said. "It's not about politics.

"I live here. This is my home and I want to make sure that anybody that's here as a guest is going to be treated with respect."

The inspection comes amid what President Barack Obama called a "humanitarian crisis" that has brought an unprecedented number of unaccompanied minors from Central America to the United States.

"The recent surge of unaccompanied minors is an issue that goes beyond the debate of our nation's flawed immigration system," said California Assemblyman Luis Alejo, D-Salinas, in a press release.... "This is a question of whether or not we ought to take proper care of helpless children with no one to turn to."

Don’t “house” them. Just put them on a plane and repatriate them with their homeland.

The humanitarian thing to do is to get them back to their parents in Central America as soon as possible.

Not to use as political props Senator.

“We weren’t even aware that the facility was even here,” said state Senator Kevin DeLeon, D-Los Angeles.

Very disturbing. What other facilities are “hidden” in America?

Could we say then that demanding other countries take care of your children is so mexican and central american? I have never been an isolationist, but it’s looking pretty damn good right now.

Give the freeloader invaders their welcome basket full of EBT and Medicaid cards and send them down the road.

Hawaii and Illinois: I heard that the pro-immigrant demonstrations in Hawaii and Illinois, Obama's "birth" state and adopted state, were even larger than the ones in California.

Sorry. My mistake. Obama mysteriously has not sent any illegals to either Hawaii or Illinois, as far as I know. I wonder why.

Hawaii: it would probably only accept illegals from Asia anyway, because most of the people in Hawaii are from Asia or come from an Asian background.

Illinois: Is it true that parts of Illinois have already rejected the illegals? Thanks.

Would she consider an unaccompanied 16 yr old that breaks into her home in the middle of the night a "guest?" Sheesh... the ignorance of these people is just plain depressing.

The humanitarian thing to do is to get them back to their parents in Central America as soon as possible.

A lot of them have parents in tow, and the parents are being let in too. Others have parents here illegally already.

I have a left wing seriously mentally challenged Obama butt licking relative who lives in Ventura County. He also hates Mexicans. I’ll bet he’s got all kinds of arguments going on in his head.

This is my home and I want to make sure that anybody that's here as a guest is going to be treated with respect.

When lieberals talk like this, they mean it from a government perspective... they mean my home... they mean your home. They mean to deconstruct the Third amendment.

So he wants them sent back to Mexico? I'm not clear what his answer is.
Mine is stopping them from coming over. And this isn't just about kids, this is
also about the invaders bringing them and our Feds turning their heads.

WE OWE THE CHILDREN OF MECIXO ((NOTHING))!!

What I don’t understand is that if they came up on a train, why can’t they go back in a train?

“California Assemblyman Luis Alejo, D-Salinas, in a press release.... “This is a question of whether or not we ought to take proper care of helpless children with no one to turn to.”

You can start, sir, by giving us all a good example, and inviting a dozen of them with TB to share your home for the 120 days.

Oh No, you say! Then why pass them off to an unsuspecting citizenry. You sir, are a hypocrite.

We have a boat in the Ventura Harbor so I spend a lot of time there. He hates Mexicans because they have taken over the county. They are everywhere. Oxnard is a ghetto except for the million dollar homes by the ocean.
