http://www.marketwatch.com/story/employers-total-smoking-ban-raises-privacy-concerns

Whoops.

The linked article references Weyco, a private benefits administration firm that banned smoking for their employees anywhere on earth nearly 10 years ago.

We have plenty of freepers all in favor of employment at will (hire and fire whomsoever you choose for whatever reason), and then we have the freepers commenting on this thread.

With the high jacking of our language, we get the collateral high jacking of American thought.

Maybe 60 years ago or so, we could say something like, 'nobody would hire a fag', and everybody (fags included) would nod in assent.

NOW, the absolutes don't exist, so .. anybody can hire fags and the fags rejoice

right is wrong and wrong is right.

I don’t know why you can’t be in both camps. Let employers hire and fire at will. If they have a policy that intrudes into your private life and you don’t like it, look for a job elsewhere. If enough good people leave or avoid the employer, he willo soon see what his fascism is costing him.

Word will spread fast about the overbearing employment policies of such an organization.

The two positions are not mutually exclusive.

Namely, the issue is the fairness of the laws. If it is free for all, great, but then it should apply to all equally. There should be no favored groups which can't be discriminated against. The present scheme opens path to selective discrimination against anyone with politically incorrect views (position on guns, abortion, religion, party, etc), too.

Smokers are merely a canary in a mine, but the progressive nazis will come eventually after you and your job, your apartments, your pubs, bars, restaurants, parks beaches and other favorite gathering places, too. Extending the common justification applied nowadays against smokers, the nazis will declare that children should be protected from even seeing people like you, too.
