A U.S. Supreme Court justice has rejected a county official's bid to suspend a ruling that overturned Pennsylvania's gay marriage ban.
Justice Samuel Alito rejected an appeal by Schuylkill County Orphans' Court Clerk Theresa Santai-Gaffney's appeal without comment Wednesday. Santai-Gaffney can appeal to another justice.

No doubt, Alito is using a technical rationale for this denial (probably an issue of standing) that I would hope won’t indicate his position should the whole case of states’ rights make it to the court.
Is it my English understanding?
The headline is misleading.
If there is no standing they cannot hear the case, regardless of their view on gay marriage. There is no wiggle room on that.
Those on the left think the fight is almost over, but I think the fight has just begun. The people don’t want this, and even the average liberal is totally unaware of what they are actually endorsing.
Marriage to the state in the modern era has always just been whatever judges, pols, or the voting majority think it is at any one time.
