Report: GOP Leaders Deny Rep. Diaz-Balart's Final Plea for Amnesty Bill

On Thursday, House Republican leaders reportedly denied Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart's (R-FL) final request to act on his amnesty bill, which he had planned to push after House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's (R-VA) June primary.

After Cantor was stunningly ousted because of the immigration issue and Tea Party opposition, as a post-election poll showed, Diaz-Balart never got that chance. And after House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) told President Barack Obama that the House would not act on an amnesty bill, Obama said he would use executive actions to change as many immigration laws as he can.

Diaz Balart told the Washington Post that he was “very disappointed” and "said he had legislation ready to go, and that his conversations convinced him that a solid number of Republicans and Democrats would have supported it."

“I’m seriously disappointed,” Diaz-Balart said. “We have a historic opportunity to fix a system everyone knows is broken. We’re squandering that opportunity. The bottom line is, we have a bill that is ready to go. We had bipartisan support. And yet I’ve been told we’re not going to move forward this year.”

Diaz-Balart reportedly was "ready to announce to House leaders that a majority of House Republicans supported his immigration reform bill," and Politico reported that Diaz-Balart had been "quietly shopping a PowerPoint presentation of a border enforcement and legalization bill to his colleagues and secured soft commitments from at least 120 Republicans." With enough Democrats supporting the bill, House Republicans who would have enabled the bill to make it to the floor could have then voted against it.

There will be a lame duck session after the November elections. If we get amnesty it will be then.

Diaz-Balart, a man who, like his “brother,” Senator Rubio, is Hispanic first and American second. They are like Holder, except that “Their People” are a different color.

Obama is what you get when there are less than meaningful immigration laws.

I remember when Mario Diaz-Balert first got elected, he had a large conservative fan club that claimed even though Lincoln Diaz-Balert was a borderline RINO, his brother was "MUCH more conservative" and would be a proudly conservative reliable vote we could "count on".

I looked it up 3 years later or so, and Lincoln had a lifetime ACU rating of 72% or so, and his "much more conservative" brother Mario hovered around 74%

Screw the whole family, IMO. (and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is even worse than BOTH of them and is basically the pro-life FL version of Olympia Snowe) Merely being pro-life and anti-Castro doesn't make you a good conservative. We need to nominate better candidates down there.

I just went to his page and I can’t seem to find his bill. He must not be very proud of it.

Huh...it figures. Nothing but liars in the GOP-E.

Mario Diaz-Balart is Anti-American Hispano-Racist for trying to push Amnesty at this time

And, also, quite stupid. Mestizo, Mulatto, Black, and Idigenas hate white skinned Cubans...and authoring Illegal Alien Amnesty bills is not going to change that

Make a backroom deal and then put on a show for the folks back home and vote no against the bill.

Just like the Senators that vote yes on cloture, vote no on the final bill, and then campaign how they stood up to Obama.

Ungood news out of Florida, some judge has partially invalidated the Congressional map, which was already too rat and cost Alan West his seat, as having “improper partisan intent”

http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/stateroundup/judge-invalidates-floridas-congressional-districts/2188031

God damn that “fair redistricting” ballot initiative or whatever it was.

“District 5, held by Democratic U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, and District 10, held by Republican U.S. Rep. Dan Webster, “will need to be redrawn, as will any other districts affected thereby.”

Challenges to other districts were denied. Obviously the intent here is screw over Webster.

While this obviously is not good news, the fact that the judge struck down Corinne Brown’s FL-05 (and Dan Webster’s adjoining FL-10) as being in violation of FL’s ungodly “fair redistricting” amendment makes it likelier that the decision will be overturned on appeal, since the FL-05 was drawn that way so as to be black-majority and thus comply with the prevailing interpretation of the federal Voting Rights Act, which trumps anything in the state constitution. The judge’s decision appearrs to gave been as partisan as the intent that he ascribes to the legislators. Four of the seven SCOFLA Justices were appointed by Crist, so I guess we’ll see just how much of a RINO he was with respect to judicial appointments.

Crist’s schtick as Governor was that he was Post-Partisan. He did a lot of kissing up to liberal black legislators. If his judicial appointments rule against the interests of the Dems, will Crist disavow him like he has with so many past positions?
