Video link to the dash cam video in body of article. The SOB got to keep his job with nothing more than a year of probation. Warning: There is some pretty foul language in the video (The wheelchair guy is quite obviousy unhappy)

Correction, It’s an ABC affiliate, not CBS. My apologies

Good. It’s about time federal civil rights laws were brought to bear on cops who do this.

If you watch, it pretty much speaks for itself.

Well as long as the cop got to go home to his family then everything is OK (Do I really need the sarcasm tag?)

Had a slob ran into me on a borrowed Wallyworld scooter in the grocery isle. He then backed up and ran forward again striking my ankle. I grabbed his steering wheel and told him if he ran into me again I would slap his face, pull out the key, and throw it across the store. He looked at me like it was my fault.

>>Had a slob ran into me on a borrowed Wallyworld scooter

When I was recovering from knee surgery a few years ago, I had one of these hambeasts back her scooter into me in Wal-Mart. When I didn’t move, she backed into me again and then angrily said, “Excuse me. I need to move.”

I rapped the side of her scooter with my cane and said, “I’m standing here and you’ll just have to wait because it hurts for me to walk but I’m not about to ride one of those things.”

First thought into MY beady little mind is that the guy in the wheelchair was one of those bodily orifices that fake being handicapped just for the perqs it gives them....parking spaces, head of the line everywhere, board airplanes first....I personally KNOW several.

I DOUBT whether a truly disabled person would be so rude. 99 44/100% are polite and humble.

OTOH....nothing pizzes me off more than an arrogant swaggering cop....but on this one I think I want to side with the Officer.

First sentence in the article says he is paraplegic. Did you miss that, or do you have reason to believe the article is wrong?

Cops are moving from helpful and polite to aggressive and ‘I am right, no matter the facts’. This is reflected in videos being posted nationwide. It is a training and culture attitude that is reinforced by the powers that be. After all, many are wanna-be military and have no reluctance to bully citizens.

And before you jump on this post, be advised that I worked for years in a large Texas suburban city as an investigator for the City Attorney and it was part of my job to investigate complaints about the police.

Its an assault and the officer should lose his job and be put in jail...

He is a giant penis canker.

This should be a criminal matter, not just a civil matter.

What I found especially disturbing was the reaction from the cop. He didn’t even think about, pure instinct to lash out at the citizenry.

I like how the white shirts knew where to stand to block the dash cam view.

Nothing but thugs.

Missed that, and couldn’t play the video. Every time I tried a pop-up jumped up trying to download a video player on me. I vetoed that. When you agree they always dump a lot of other unwanted crap on your machine.
However, I am inclined to stick with my original hunch that even if paralytic, the guy had a tude, and THAT’s why he ran over Officer Friendly’s foot.

That sort of thing strikes me as almost certainly intentional. Did the perp attempt to IMMEDIATELY apologize?

You have no earthly clue of the mental attitude of 99 44/100% of disabled people. I had no idea that you were psychic enough to intuit that the guy deliberately ran over the cop’s foot. How about he was probably a little shook up from the confrontation since he is at a terrible disadvantage and wasn’t paying attention.

Doesn’t matter. the disabled guys intentions or attitude are irrelevant. He didn’t have a knife or a gun, he posed no immediate danger outside of a possible bruised foot... and the cop had literally 4-5 seconds to move to avoid that. He stood with his feet spread out as if to block the guy from moving from what I can see. We could argue that the disabled guy should be charged with assault, but that doesn’t justify what the cop did. He’s in a wheelchair.. how hard is it to step more than 24 inches away from him? Instead, the cop reacted with his anger. We don’t pay him for that, we pay him to be professional. If he can’t handle it, he needs to go pump gas or something where he doesn’t have to deal with the dregs of society. Pretty simple. You don’t have to be on one side or the other. Quite frankly, I’m guessing they are BOTH guilty of assaulting the other... and we expect better out of the police.

Yes we pay these people to be professional. They go through intense training to become professional law enforcement officers. Dumping parapalegics out of wheelchairs is pretty much beyond the pale.
