First person to buy pot in Spokane says he was fired from job

Mike Boyer got his 15 minutes of fame when he became the first person in Spokane to buy recreational pot on Tuesday.

On Wednesday Boyer posted his resume on Craigslist, saying Kodiak Security had fired him. Kodiak officials told the Spokesman-Review, though, that Boyer still had a job with the company.

Boyer said two of his three part-time employers have asked him to take drug tests after seeing news reports of his pot purchase. He said he will fail them.

Kym Ramey, a human resources manager for Kodiak, said employees are tested per company policy. "We're a security firm," Ramey said. "Our employees can't be under the influence on the job."

They only process info that confirms their deeply held beliefs. Critical thinking is beyond most of them.

Meanwhile, employees are free to kill themselves on booze and pills and keep their jobs.

Funny how that works, huh?

Critical thinking is beyond most of them.

I can't quite believe that of my FRiends. On the contrary, I believe most here are smarter than your average bear. I just think this one issue is one of those that immediately clouds the judgement, most for religious reasons. Overall, I think it really portrays the Conservative movement quite poorly. Seems we're all about personal freedom, as long as it's not this issue.

It’s harder to justify no-knock raids and shooting pets for having more than 3 ounces of pure Jack Daniels at home.

How much experience have you had in the industry? Ever seen a plant grown...from seed? I have. Trust me, the scripture fits. Seems to me Conservatives are all about personal freedom, unless pot, abortion or gay marriage, all of which are up to God to punish, if you want to get scriptural about it. You’re usurping God’s authority, something you yourself will have to answer to Him for, not me.

"We're a security firm," Ramey said. "Our employees can't be under the influence on the job."

Unfortunately drug testing doesn't show whether he was under the influence on the job or not. It will only show whether he has smoked within the last 30 days. Hardly a basis for being fired. If you drank beer sometime within the last 30 days, would you expect to be fired?

Yet, this nation was stupid once and did just that.

Seems to me . . .

That's your problem right there. You are relying on emotional perception rather than facts.<

. . . Conservatives are all about personal freedom, unless pot, abortion or gay marriage, all of which are up to God to punish, if you want to get scriptural about it.

Conservatives such as myself believe that the citizens of a society should have the sole voice in shaping that society. If the members of a society want to legalize pot, or same-sex marriage, or teaching creation in our public schools, then so be it. THAT is the Conservative position. Now compare that to the liberal position that pot should be legalized despite what the members of society say, or that same-sex marriage should be sanctioned by government despite the will of that government chosen by the people believe. And liberals believe that creation should be prohibited from being taught in school despite the will of the members of that society.

Freedom? If it weren't for Conservatives, we wouldn't have any freedom left. If you want to smoke dope, then smoke to your heart's content. But it will be the Conservative who will be fighting for the personal freedom of the business owner to hire and fire whoever he wants, while the liberal will be the one denying the business owner that freedom.

How dare you lecture me about personal freedom when you should be going after the people who are dictating their version of morality upon an unwilling populace - liberals. Next time you think about personal freedom, ask yourself who it is that made it illegal to purchase an insurance policy that does not cover birth control. Ask yourself who it is that sacrifices the freedom of equal protection by implementing racial quotas that abridge liberty for all. Ask yourself who it is that uses the power of a central government to force a cake maker to design cakes against his will. And ask yourself who it is that jails farmers who dare to sell raw milk to consumers who want to purchase that milk.

Personal freedom? Sorry Charlie. The current fascism which we now live under is not conducive with personal freedom.

I support adults' right to use pot and employers' right to set employment conditions; before one makes oneself a poster child for legal pot, one ought to investigate one's employers' policies.

You need to read the Book of Romans. God put government over us and we are to pay our taxes and obey the law. That includes laws concerning illegal drugs, abortion and gay marriage. You do know how to create a libertarian, right? You take a conservative and remove all common sense.

Do you support the Tenth Amendment with regard to intrastate regulation of marijuana by the states rather than fedgov?

gay marriage, all of which are up to God to punish, if you want to get scriptural about it.

Scripture says: "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

Absolutely. Do you support the Tenth Amendment with regard to regulation of marriage, Bible teaching in schools, use of public property for religious use, and abortion by the states rather than fedgov?
