President Obamas request of $3.7 billion in emergency funding for the border is too high, the House chairman with purview over spending said Friday.
"No, that's too much," Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) said when asked whether the House would pass the spending bill outlined by the administration.
Rogers did not offer specifics of what House Republicans would prefer to pass instead.
The House Appropriations Committee and the House GOP working group on border security are reviewing Obamas request, and are expected to provide the House Republican Conference with an update next Tuesday.
"Hopefully we can give you a better answer next week," Rogers told reporters outside the House chamber.
Rogers indicated that the House would likely act on the supplemental appropriations request before leaving for the month-long August recess.
"Oh, yeah," Rogers said when asked whether the House would take action by then.
Rogers said that some of the funding requested by Obama could be handled through the regular appropriations process, in which Congress passes 12 individual bills to fund the federal government.
But, he said, "There are pieces that need to be dealt with immediately."
They came in from Mexico, just throw them on the other side of the border.
What they are asking for works out to $57,000 per kid. Giving it to them would be insane, and I’m glad somebody is saying NO!
De-fund everything.
It will cost far less to give money for plane fair back for each and every one of them.
That is all I would give them.
He originally asked for $2 billion just days ago. It’s not like any of it is going to go for a good purpose.
In a sane world there would be no question that that’s what would happen. We seem to have insane criminals running the country now and they’re not all in one party.
Linda G. speaks out a few days ago and informs everyone this has to be passed or Republicans will be blamed. To hell with him.
Can you imagine the tens and probably hundreds of billions this is going to cost us in the long run? These “children” are for the most part going to stay and they’ll be on the dole and on top of that throw in the gangbangers and diseased.
It’s a nightmare that falls squarely on 0bummer,s shoulders. He should be in a federal slammer but that will never happen, he’ll just keep laughing his butt off. End of rant.
3.7 cents would be too much.
1. One way tickets home to anyone in the US illegally (and not just the central american hordes)
2. Troops on the southern US border making sure the "refugees" stay in Mexico. It must be a safe haven, since they were able to travel across the nation.
Life in an Oligarchy is getting tedious. This whole thing has become a PR stunt to keep the masses afraid for our futures.
How about getting 1 billion. 100 million will send home 100,000 people. Use the other 900 million to send home 500,000 additional people with a parting gift of 4000 each.
Will save 2.7 billion, and the cost of services for 600,000 people.
Agree but it’d be better if the USAF organized a Central American airlift like we did for Berlin after WWII. Pack those illegals in AF transports like sardines for their ride home.
Defund money sent to south American countries that send the people and use it for deporting.
LOL!
That’s a good ole dog.
