BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - BESE submitted a compromise to Governor Jindal regarding next year’s standardized testing. The hope is to reach an agreement in an ongoing dispute regarding Common Core testing.

Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education President Chas Roemer, Vice President Jim Garvey and Secretary-Treasurer Holly Boffy conducted a call for members of the media to discuss the resolution.

This is a mess in Louisiana. Taken is trying to take Louisiana out of Common Core. His Super-intendent and K-12 Board Members (BESE) are offing a compromise.

Math tests from last year were not used... Students were just passed for some grades...

Governor Jindal has checkmated (or stalemated) the situation by changing the CAP for contracts for testing (without his approval) from $20,000 to $2,000.

Head of Louisiana Dept of Education White and and Louisiana BESE PresidentChas Roemer (yes, he is related to former Governor Buddy Roemer) have been opposing Gov Jindal on backing out Common Core.

I believe the LEAP tests (which Louiana uses) from last year are just sitting in a closet. All pupils are automatically promoted, from what I understand.

Or at least some in English and some Math...

The Louisiana Dept of Education has created a monster, and will not realize, in my opinion, that Gov Jindal is right in getting out of Common Core/Parcc.

Taken is trying to take Louisiana out of Common Core.

This should have read:

Gov. Jindal is trying to take Louisiana out of Common Core, and not proceed into PARCC.

LEAP = Louisiana Educational Assessment Program

There is also iLEAP, which is used for some grades.

iLEAP is:

The series of annual assessments in grades 3, 5, 6, and 7 is known as the “integrated” Louisiana Educational Assessment Programs (iLEAP). The iLEAP is referred to as an integrated LEAP because it originally combined a criterion-based component, which measured whether a student had mastered the academic standards, with a norm-referenced component (the Iowa Test of Basic Skills), which provided a percentile ranking of students. The iLEAP tests of 2013-14 no longer contain the Iowa portion and are criterion-based only.

The above is a quote from the site: https://www.louisianabelieves.com/assessment/annual-assessments

There are rumors that the Superintendent of Education for Louisiana no longer has his job. Unclear if this is a rumor or fact.

If I were a betting person, I would bet on Governor Jindal ins this battle.
