Skip to comments.6.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Near Fukushima, Tsunami Warning Issued
Posted on 07/11/2014 12:57:46 PM PDT by Zakeet
Moments ago, at 4:22am local time, a major 6.8 magnitude quake struck eastern Japan, off the Fukushima coast.
From the USGS:
So far there have been no reports of damage. Those curious can keep track of Fukushima in real time at the live webcast below:
Just when one thought it safe to go near the shore
Loma Prieta (1989) was 6.9.
It’s hard to tell from that map, is this another deep one?
I can’t recall the details of the last one that did major damage off the top of my head..
Here we go again.
Is the ‘ice wall’ intact??
37.069°N 142.364°E depth=13.3km (8.2mi)
Godzilla fault LOL!
Did Godzilla just FART?
After the Typhoon, perhaps...
Then after the Tsunami warning...
THEN after first taking a reading of how hot the surf & sand are (bq).
But I suppose not necessarily in that order.
this one was stronger
I remember being here on Free Republic and watching via link the inland tsunami happening real time on Japanese TV (helicopter TV crew was filming)
It was horrible
This one is 6.9 miles: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/usb000rs50#summary
According to wiki, the 2011 Fukushima was 19 miles deep:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_T%C5%8Dhoku_earthquake_and_tsunami
FWIW: The wiki page says the one in 2011 was 9.0.
the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center hasn’t updated their page with the warning. losers.
The rolling waves of water and debris are hard to forget,, sad to watch life scrubbed out... Nature is transparent, man claims of be.
I don’t know just breaking right now
Just this week, they’re still reporting leaks.
In the *two* days before the 311 9.0 quake, there were some strong EQs in the same area as the big one, two in the low 7s and I think also a couple in the 6s.
Parts of it, like the edges of Kalifornia where all the liberals clutter can all take a dip in the ocean leaving the conservative inland intact.
Yep - depth has a lot to do with the effects....just yesterday we had a beentsie 3.2 about sixteen miles south of us, and it was maybe 2 or 3 miles deep — but it rumbled and then gave us a good thump.....something we don’t usually experience until the upper 4’s on the scale.
God help them.
History shows again and again how nature brings up the folly of man.
According to Fukushima prefectural govt, TEPCO says no new problems confirmed at Fukushima nuclear plant after this morning’s M6.8
Yeah, they wouldn’t lie.
I see what you did there... ;-)
Notably Fresno, home of the boss and our gracious, Patriotic host.
I’m still concerned about the Cascadia Subduction Zone. Runs offshore from Vancouver Island in Canada all the way to north-central Cali, where it hooks up with the San Andreas.
If THAT goes....most of the PNW is in a world of hurt. It’s the same type of fault as the 2011 Japan quake.
Yes, I watched it too. It was horrible seeing people driving and their vehicles being swept away.
Two smaller aftershocks at same location.
It was actually a 7.1, but the Clinton administration "downgraded" it because the law dictates that the Feds have to pick up the tab for all damages in an EQ of 7.0 or greater, and Slick had cronies that needed that taxpayer money more than us EQ victims did..
Only two earthquakes have really scared me and Northridge was one of them. Sylmar was the other.
Do these things ever pan out? I can only remember two tsunami in past 20 years or so, we had the one in Japan and then the one in that Sri Lanka type country that happened around Christmastime.
Chile has suffered several of them. But the human toll was minimal.
The summit of Mount Everest, for instance, "is formed of rocks made in a shallow sea."
That fact comes from "Darwin's Ghost" by Steve Jones, a comprehensive update of Darwin's famous work.
Me too I was on the fifth floor of the parkwest apartments across from lax 24 right northridge quake was a monster nothing good or fun with that one
I’m watching the Cascadia Subduction Zone too...
Is this a forecast?
Your date is July 14,2014

Bush's fault caused by Global Warming no doubt

Yeah, and they’ve been trustworthy from the start. sarc/
The worst part was watching those get swept away who had seen it coming, knew what it was, and were trying to outrun it.

Lots of good conservatives, represented in Congress by strong conservatives live near and on the coast in Orange County, Ventura County, Santa Barbara County (vacation home of Ronald Reagan) and San Diego County.
