Senate Candidate Joni Ernst Records GOP Address, Then Deploys

Americans know more about what their communities need than Washington's bureaucrats, Iowa State Sen. Joni Ernst said in Saturday's GOP address, recorded days ago before she headed out for active duty leading her military battalion for the next two weeks.

"I get asked all the time what made me want to join the military," said Ernst, a lieutenant colonel and battalion commander in the Iowa Army National Guard. "The answer is simple. When I was attending college, I went on an agricultural exchange to the Soviet Union. And I saw with my own eyes what a nation without freedom looks like. I saw what happens to people when they lose their liberty."

The mother and grandmother, in addition being in the military, handily won the Republican nomination to run for the U.S. Senate this fall. She became a national name with a viral campaign ad comparing cutting pork in Washington with her skills from her early days on a farm castrating hogs, and is running against Democratic Congressman Bruce Braley to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin.

Ernst said that she grew up on a farm and knows what it's like to not have much, as her mother canned food and made their clothing. But she said she also learned that America is great because of its people, not its government.

"The problem in America today is that Washington is full of liberals who think government is the solution to every problem," said Ernst. "They think that nothing can be solved unless Washington is involved."

Ernst railed against Obamacare in Saturday's speech, and also called for a Balanced Budget Amendment in to "force Washington to stop spending more than it takes in"

Hey, at least she had stones enough to serve in uniform, which is more than Paul, Cruz, Romney, Rubio, Walker or Christie can say.

While none of those served, the only one that really worked at it and actually worked to avoid a draft as his dad ran to command the military during war, is Mitt Romney.

Let’s shoot for Senator first.

I’m in Iowa and voting for Joni.

That was my short list. We shouldn’t have to chase our “leaders” to do something in the military.

True, but I was pointing out the one that went to great lengths to make sure that the chase we had going on at the time, didn’t catch him.

In Romney’s case, no man in his direct line has ever served the United States in uniform in their entire 170+ year family history in the United States.

I would say that is a deliberate policy.

You may have a point, I didn’t know it went that far back. What a contrast to Duncan Hunter or John McCain’s family, eh?

My guess is that it is unusual for most families that were here almost a generation before the Civil war, and ever since.

I believe they were frequently on Missions for the LDS during the prime years for actual service. Thus making them second tier when the drafts were applied, but I have not really looked into it. Personally I think most of the RINO’s shot them selves in the foot when they didn't scream about the obvious voter fraud that beat Romney. His silence takes him out of the field!

You think deciding to go on a 24 month exercise for Joseph Smith’s religious cult kept them out of the military for a perfect 170 year history, including now his five sons?

The pro-abortion, pro-gay Scout leader Mitt Romney lost for being liberal, and by millions of votes, not because of fraud.

Being famously left wing, dishonest, and anti-conservative, and then coming out against the GOP’s pro-life platform and running pro-choice ads in Ohio, Wisconsin, and Virginia, are what killed the incompetent, failed, one term politician.
