Today was a horrible day for Jersey City, said Jersey Mayor Steven Fulop who held a press conference this morning at the Jersey city Medical Center announcing the death of Officer Melvin Santiago.

Shot with the security guards gun, from what I understand. No description of the perp, who was killed at the scene.
While a sliver of Jersey City (the “Gold Coast”) benefited from the exodus of jobs and yuppies from NYC over the past couple of decades, much of it is still a Third World slum.
Yawn...
RIP Melvin Santiago. I know that area very well, the police station is about 2 blocks away. There was a manager of a KFC that is right nearby what shot to death years ago when we lived there.
So the moron perp beats the guard, steals his gun, shoots an officer dead and gets himself shot to death and probably got sent directly to hell. Not just utter evil but also pure stupidity as his legacy. Now he’s just another chump of el diablo down in the hot below.
STUPID.......
How many FReepers are truly sad that a police officer was killed? Fifteen years ago, heck maybe ten, I would have been. Today? Sorry, I am not the slightest bit sad.
Whose faulty is that? I believe that the actions of numerous SWAT teams and way too many unpunished civilians who were murdered by aggressive cops and then protected by the thin blue line that caused me to switch from being pro LEO to anti LEO.
I understand the conflict; in the end this was just a guy we know nothing about (certainly wasn’t on a SWAT team) that got shot in the head responding to a call (black on Hispanic violence, if you will).
God help his loved ones.
Prayers for the fallen officer’s family and department.
