Administrators have said the district’s roughly 2,000 eighth-grade students were assigned the essays in April as a critical thinking project.

The complete archive of the essays was provided to the Los Angeles News Group in the form of 45 PDF files, some of which contain hundreds of pages of student assignments. An examination of the essays by newsroom staff found that at least 50 essays denied or doubted the Holocaust occurred.

In addition to the Los Angeles News Group, the district released copies of the student essays to Sen. Marty Block, D-San Diego, the Museum of Tolerance and several private individuals.
Block, head of the state’s Jewish legislative caucus, called the assignment “disturbing” back in June. Last week, he applauded the release of the essays:
“I am glad to learn that the Rialto Unified School District is releasing the essays and cooperating with the public’s requests for information,” he said in a written statement. “Release of the information can only shed more light on the incident and assist in preventing a recurrence. Jewish Caucus staff will review the essays to assess the level of holocaust denial in the Rialto Unified School District.”

I’m sure they wrote “it never happened” with a grin on their face. Teachers like creativity and I bet they got the highest marks.
The parents should sue.
I would agree. While the fact that 50 students could deny something as well documented as the Holocaust says either they have a lot of Islamic students or that left wing history teachers are airbrushing the subject, the idea that you could write an essay in school and have it released to interest groups whoever they might be may have some scary repercussions. Today it may be Holocaust denial, but what about anti-abortion essays, or writings on the falsehood of same sex marriage?
More reason to steer clear of public education.
These were the same students that also made an essay on how the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor and started the Vietnam War, right?
Beyond scary.
This is being pushed by the Arabs pushing their religion.
All the evidence you could ever want is stored in The Hague as long as it doesn’t become a muslim enclave.
Rialto is in the Inland Empire section of So. California. 85% Hispanic in the public school system. I doubt many of them care one way or the other about "something as well documented as the Holocaust".
