The 4 NYC teachers banned from classrooms who rake in millions

Three of the city’s longest-running “rubber room” teachers have raked in more than $1 million each for a decade of not working in classrooms, and a fourth is paid a top salary — $100,049 a year — not to teach.

The Foul Four — who beat sexual-misconduct charges — can’t be fired by the Department of Education because they are entitled to job protections under state tenure laws, which require “due process.” Educators are entitled to a trial with an independent hearing officer who decides whether any misconduct warrants termination.

A group of New York City parents filed a lawsuit this month seeking to loosen the restrictions after a California judge ruled teacher tenure in that state unconstitutional.

The four banned teachers collect a total of $363,271 a year, plus pension and health benefits.

I read about one of those teachers has made about ten million dollars through dealing in real estate. He sets up the deals during his time in the rubber room, then at night he completes the deals.

“The Foul Four — who beat sexual-misconduct charges — ....”

What does that even mean? If they “beat” the charges because the charges were bogus — that’s a very different thing than the guilty getting off on a technicality (which is clearly what the “reporter” wants us to infer).

If guilty — then prosecute to the full extent of the law in a STAT! If found not guilty, then put them back in harness, so they can earn their pay. While some teachers are certainly guilty of sexual-misconduct; it’s also true that some students aren’t above using the law as a weapon, by making false claims.

Have you ever met teachers who were in the rubber room? The vast majority of them had not done anything wrong except to tick off a vindictive administrator. It was a gulag, a prison for teachers who were political prisoners. Friends tell me that all you were allowed to do was sit cheek to jowl at a table. You were not allowed to leave the room at all unless you had to use the bathroom or for the lunch period. Sprinkled among the perfectly normal and nice teachers were a small minority of truly wacked out teachers who made the lives of the political prisoner teachers miserable, assailing them with racial slurs, physical threats, etc. One friend of mine had someone dump a bottle of water over her head for no reason, just a wacko.

So, you have a bunch of people with Masters degrees forced to sit in close proximity with other people, under GUARD, and you had to sit there for 6 hours and 40 minutes a day. And YOU give them all a blanket condemnation, without knowing the particulars at all, and would have them sit without any diversion at all for 6 hours and 40 minutes? Try that on some guy who just shot a grandmother and you'd be accused of cruel and unusual punishment. But it's just a teacher, so it's OK, right?

If you saw how many administrators address teachers working under them (mine told me he would "throw me out the f___ window if I didn't have have a 65% passing rate" and also told me that "You know what your problem is? You need a man."), you would be absolutely shocked. You would be just as shocked at how the students address their teacher, calling them filthy names, throwing stuff at them, hitting them in the head with heavy objects, spitting on them, threatening them with bodily harm, and making up absolutely fallacious stories about how their teacher "touched them inappropriately" (and please believe me, they would not normally use inappropriately--unless they were coached to do so), or said something "racist" to them, etc. I've had students tell me I was "racist" because I asked them to put away their cell phones!

So unless you've walked a mile in their moccasins, please do not make blanket statements condemning a whole group of people for the sins of a few.

then i guess getting another job is out of the question? i'm sure the school systems would gladly not give them a bad reference than pay them for doing nothing, it happens all the time... there must be some reason they'd rather sit there than work

Watchdog Report: Secrecy agreements protect troublesome teachers in N.Y.

since their Masters is going to waste, they might as well get a job doing anything that makes them a productive member of society rather than sitting there sucking op taxpayer dollars doing nothing

cause there's no way in HELL i'd sit there if i was innocent... but that's just me

What does that even mean?

Well said. If those teachers are still drawing a salary, then one of two things must be true.

1. The teachers are guilty, and the administrators are too cowardly to fire them.
2. The teachers are innocent, and the administrators are too cowardly to return them to class.

Either way, it is very easy to blame the teachers. But either way, it's the cowardly administrators who are at fault.

Why? It is not the administrators’ money.

i’m not saying the administrators would be the ones to decide that.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
