Rep. Bruce Braley (D., Iowa) threatened to sue a homeowners association after a chicken crossed onto his vacation home property in Iowa, again raising concerns that the Senate candidate is out-of-touch with farmers in the state, the Iowa Republican reports.
The dispute started this spring after one of his neighbors chickens appeared on his vacation property in Holiday Lake, Iowa:
Braleys wife Carolyn attended a May 8 meeting of the Holiday Lake Owners Association to complain about the fowl. The dispute escalated, causing the association to incur nearly $1,700 in legal fees after Braley called the associations attorney with an implied threat of legal action.
Its stupid that it went this far. Any reasonable person would have talked to their neighbor in a reasonable fashion instead, said Bill Nagle, an association board member. For being brought up on a farm, he sure has lost his rural, farm values.
Pauline HamptonBraleys neighbor, a licensed therapist, and a U.S. Air Force veteranis a registered Democrat. She reportedly used her four chickens to work with children who have mental health and communication problems.
Hampton said she was disappointed with how the Braleys handled the affair:
It [is] very important the citizens of Iowa know who they would be supporting and voting for to represent their best interests and the interests of farmers, and in [this] particular case, the support of children with mental illness and disabilities. Its sad this situation is based on something as simple as a chicken at large situation, Hampton told TheIowaRepublican.com.
Shes also upset about the way the Braleys blindsided her with the complaint instead of trying to work it out neighbor-to-neighbor.
I only found out about the complaint being filed when I went over and offered [the Braleys] a dozen fresh, organic eggs from the chickens, Hampton said. [Carolyn Braley] refused to take them, stating she had filed a complaint against me. I offer all of my eggs to my neighbors, they are the only ones who have refused.
Republicans have repeatedly accused Braley of neglecting the interests of Iowa farmers, including after comments he made in January at a Texas fundraiser with trial lawyers. Braley called Sen. Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa) a farmer from Iowa who never went to law school in remarks at the event.
Sounds like another average Democrap “The world revolves around me me me me me me me me me me”
Why did the chicken cross the road? To show that a pol was past his use-by date.
That’s a paltry reason to cry foul.
to pi$$ odd Bruce Braley...
The guy sounds like he is probably insane.
Hey Braley, didn’t you ever hear of a “chicken in every pot.” You eat them, you don’t sue.
The foul fowl fouled his yard. Apparently you have never walked barefoot across the chicken yard ICK! :(.
But, when you are a high profile person and running for office, you don’t make a big ado about something this trivial.
Talk about chickens coming home to roost!!
I have never heard of Bruce Bailey, I am making fun of him.
I have never heard of Bruce Bailey,
He is the Democrat running for an open Senate seat in Iowa against Joni Ernst; the GOP candidate. This is the 3rd time he has said or done something that was offensive to farmers and every day folks in Iowa.
It was incredibly stupid for him to complain about chickens in his yard in farm country. (I have walked barefoot across the chicken yard and that is pretty stupid too) :)
For those who don’t know, this isn’t some resort area. It’s a county of less than 20,000 people in the heart of farm country. The lake is one of those man-made 100 acre puddles where affluent folks from Cedar Rapids like to pretend there’s a real resort, a “private” recreation area.
When you insist on moving into farm country sometimes chickens happen. Sometimes manure smells happen too. YOU CHOSE TO MOVE THERE! The farms were already there.
But I have to ask, why is he so afraid of a chicken that he needs a lawyer? Is he a bigger... well....
Chicken, stay away from me! (fried chicken)
Chicken, stay away from me! (stewed chicken)
Chicken, stay away from me! (French fried chicken)
Chicken, stay away from me! (boiled chicken)
Chicken, stay away from me!
Chickens are ruthless.....just ruthless.
Braley - How do I get out of this chicken-#*& state?
