Last week, the Hillsboro Argus followed two new migrant recruiters as they signed up students for summer school who live at farm worker camps. Those that qualify for federal migrant education services receive help during the school year, after-school tutoring, preschool and summer school.
Q. How does the migrant recruiting process work?
A. We work on the same 10-month contract as teachers. Afterward, there is a separate summer school program.
Q. What changes have you noticed throughout the years?
A. Ninety-nine percent of the kids in the program are Hispanic, mostly from Mexico. Many of them don't have papers; many of them have faced burdens because of immigration (status).
Q. What is significant about your job within the district? Would migrant families discover their resources if you weren't there to tell them?
A. Truthfully, it's very difficult. Many families we visit every day don't know how to find resources. We give them resources to find clothes, food, healthcare, transportation, for everything in the community. Many of them have a hard life. It's difficult to see how they live. There are many families who don't even have where to sleep, that we have to be constantly helping.

what is this “migrant” crap?
Just wait until they’re overpowered by more infected “refugees” when they overwhelm the hospitals and get all that welfare money ... as soon as it hits the city’s budget they’ll scream, won’t be so loving ...
So if they don't have papers they are here illegally, which means their parents probably are as well. Does no one care about this blatant violation of our laws? Just deport them and we can begin to attempt to reduce the 17-trillion dollar plus surplus we already have.
Let the legal citizens and americans get their jobs instead, and quit increasing our taxes to pay for them.
Is that concept really so difficult to comprehend?
Consider it to be a big hug and a thankyou for paying your taxes.
The taxpayers and US citizens are the ones facing burdens
So let me see if I get this right... we’re not paying people to look for illegals and deport them, but to find them so they can be enrolled in a free education, free lunch and free healthcare.
Suicidal insanity.
So they’re not really “migrant students”. They’re Mexican National students.
