Fer sure. It’s almost worn like a badge of honor by some of the lib women. Bucking time honored traditions just to show somebody that “they” can’t control you. Or some lame brain reason. (I guess some “conservative” women too.) Weird.
I don’t know about wealthier white women, but in my area the whites are doing it for the same reason urban blacks do: to get paid. There is no pride in it about anyone controlling them at all; they have become wards of the state, and will live where the state dictates, use the schools designated by the state, etc.
