FULL TITLE Rand Paul Fires Back at Rick Perry: Apparently His New Glasses Havent Altered His Perception Of The World
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul on Monday fired back at fellow Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who accused Paul over the weekend of standing for “isolationist policies” that “would only endanger our national security.”
“There are many things I like about Texas Gov. Rick Perry, including his stance on the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution,” Paul said. “But apparently his new glasses haven’t altered his perception of the world, or allowed him to see it any more clearly.”
The new foreign policy feud between the two potential Republican presidential candidates began over the weekend when Perry took to The Washington Post to write a piece titled, “Isolationist policies make the threat of terrorism even greater.”
Perry’s attack on Paul signals a seriousness about running for president in 2016. By attacking Paul’s more restrained foreign policy, Perry is positioning himself as someone who could take up the mantle of the more hawkish wing of the GOP.
The Texas governor, who unsuccessfully ran for president in 2012, used the op-ed to accuse Paul of thinking “our nation should ignore what’s happening in Iraq.”
Paul, Perry said, is for a policy that ignores “the profound threat that the group now calling itself the Islamic State poses to the United States and the world.”
“In the face of the advancement of the Islamic State, Paul and others suggest the best approach to this 21st-century threat is to do next to nothing,” Perry argued. “I personally don’t believe in a wait-and-see foreign policy for the United States. Neither would Reagan.”
Paul responded to Perry with an op-ed in Politico, a D.C. website, titled, “Rick Perry Is Dead Wrong.”
“Governor Perry writes a fictionalized account of my foreign policy so mischaracterizing my views that I wonder if he’s even really read any of my policy papers,” Paul wrote.
The libertarian-leaning senator dismissed Perry’s argument that he’s for inaction against the Islamic State — the group of Islamic militants forcibly taking control of lands in Iraq.
I support continuing our assistance to the government of Iraq, which include armaments and intelligence, Paul said. I support using advanced technology to prevent ISIS from becoming a threat. I also want to stop sending U.S. aid and arms to Islamic rebels in Syria who are allied with ISIS, something Perry doesnt even address. I would argue that if anything, my ideas for this crisis are both stronger, and not rooted simply in bluster.
Added Paul: If the governor continues to insist that these proposals mean Im somehow ignoring ISIS, Ill make it my personal policy to ignore Rick Perrys opinions.
Paul is taking cheap shots at Gov. Perry?
Hoo Boy.
Paul is juvenile.
MY vision is clouded with memories of the 50's, early 60's and Norman Rockwell
I was too yooung to know or learn about Goldwater ... but I think I like him, too
Where is Perry’s “cheap shot” and where is Paul’s “cheap shot”?
Two RINOs going after each other. Hilarious.
Girl fight!
I thought the only thing Paul has been worried about lately is giving convicted felons the right to vote.
Perry’s cheap shot was slandering Paul as an “isolationist.” Paul’s cheap shot was pointing out that Perry is still a moron despite his smart new glasses.
Perry said I had a cold heart.
Those are such prop glasses.
BMG was certainly no isolationist.
He believed in victory over Communism and that included in Vietnam.
I’m no Randmesty supporter....but Rick Perry sounds like a Soros-wannabe calling Randmesty “isolatonist”
Rand Paul, like Perry, supports Open Borders and Illegal Alien Amnesty....there is nothing isolationist about that. Paul just wants to coddle Muslims a little more
I bet Rand supports the North American Union nonsense and NAFTA Superhighway nonsense Perry tried to force on Texans a few years ago
Exactly...two RINOs attacking each other
lol!
Governor Mumbles also has a history of doing that.
Coming elections need the debate on when we commit blood and treasure. Further it needs to commit itself to using a Constitutional formal declaration of war instead of the various workarounds and scams used by Presidents of both parties to wage war.
Of all the issues driving Freepers to be Constitutionalists, this war power is primary. Stop being led by the nose by warwongers driving the country into bankruptcy and weakness with the blood of a 1,000 wounds.
As I said ... never got to know him .... thanx.
Well....I never knew him personally either.
But EVERYONE always knew where he stood.
That was his hallmark
You might not always agreed with him.
But he wasn’t full of BS like most politicians these days.
There was nothing isolationist about those decades, we were fighting major wars 3 and 4, had a draft, and maintained troops everywhere, and the fear that major General Goldwater was too war mongering with wanting to make nuclear weapons in Vietnam and Europe a local Army decision.
Here’s what Rand said about the NAFTA superhighway in 2008:
Q: What does Ron Paul want to do to fight the prospect of a North American Union and an Amero?
Rand Paul: Well I think publicizing it is the first thing, publicizing that it’s going on. Trying to get the legislature to stop it, through official acts of Congress. You know any time he talks about it, though, the media tries to make fun of him as if it doesn’t exist. But I think in Montana, your state legislature has talked about the North American Union. Texas has had several votes about the corridor, they just call it a different name, they call it the trans-Texas corridor.
Q: It comes right through here.
Rand Paul: Yeah, it’s the same thing. It’s gonna go up through Texas, I guess, all the way to Montana. So, it’s a real thing, and when you talk about it, the thing you just have to be aware of is that, if you talk about it like it’s a conspiracy, they’ll paint you as a nut. It’s not a conspiracy, they’re out in the open about it. I saw the YouTube of Vincente Fox talking about the Amero. So, it’s not a secret. now it may not be [inaudible] tomorrow, but it took ‘em 20 or 30 years to get the Euro, and they had to push people kicking and screaming into the Euro.
But I guarantee you it’s one of their long term goals to have one sort of borderless, mass continent.
