The House voted Tuesday in favor of a short-term, multi-billion dollar fix to the Highway Trust Fund, which helps pay for federal highway and transit programs.
President Obama spent the last several weeks at campaign-style public events -- including ones with the backdrop of Delaware and Virginia bridges -- trying to garner public support for the $10.8 billion bill and to convince Congress to approve the funding.
In voting in favor of the bill, 367 to 55, the Republican-controlled House keeps the fund from going broke in the coming weeks but leaves open the chore of finding a long-term fix.
The Senate has yet to vote on a similar bill.

Next question, what happens after they hit the so called “short term” date?
They caved again. They couldn’t vote to cut off all money to the hordes from central america (except for one way transportation home) but they sure did vote so their sponsors who profit from construction projects get their federal paychecks.
Look carefully and you will probably find funding for the illegal immigrants on page 897 of the bill.
Simple - Just spend LESS MONEY each month.
It’s not that hard.
And another $10.8 billion deposited into Union coffers to buy Dem votes!
How stupid do they think we are?
Oh, never mind...I give up.
“Trust” has no place in a lexicon involving Congress.
Call it the highway robbery fund or the highway hijinx fund.
What happened to the hundreds of billions in ARRA stimulus money that was supposed to take care of this starting in 2009?
Obama wanted over 300 BILLION.
The House gave him 1% of that.
And where was it again that they found the 10.8 bill? The Kenyan’s stash, maybe?
I guess it’s the same place where the money to bus illegals to Wal-Mart with EBT’s come from
Now gasoline prices have stayed so high so long and people are being put out of work as a consequence of Barrycare, it's time to worry about the Highway Trust Fund being in sad shape because people drive less and purchase less fuel.
If they ever get the average auto to fifty miles per gallon there will be panic in Washington over how fast they can raise the Federal gas tax to keep the money rolling in instead of dealing with the consequences of their own actions.
No matter what the problem, the answer is always higher taxes on something, more expensive government employees, and more debt to keep the hogs in Washington fed.
If Americans in recent history were even a shadow of their ancestors who created this country there would have been a massive tax revolt with politicians and bureaucrats by the dozen hanging from Cherry trees along the reflecting pool fifty years ago if not sooner.
There, I feel somewhat better now. Rant off.
Using Karl Marx’s ideas to help the middle class is like using Adolph Hitler’s ideas to help the Jews.
