President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko demands all central and regional authorities to work in closer coordination to protect the rights of children and to ensure their safety, the transfer of orphans from the territories under the control of illegal armed groups to other regions of Ukraine.
This was stated by Presidential Commissioner for the peaceful settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine Iryna Herashchenko during a meeting at the Presidential Administration on ensuring the rights of children, Censor.NET reports.
Herashchenko stressed that particularly troubling are the attempts to involve children in the armed conflict, and by use of force and in violation of the law to take orphans into the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as aggressive use of children in dirty media campaign launched by the Russian media.
Today, according to the information of the Presidential Administration, 600 orphans are in the Donetsk region with children's homes, health resorts and families in other regions of Ukraine willing to accept them. But the militants keep the children in orphanages threatening their heads and blackmailing their transportation to Russia. The Commissioner criticized the "false news stories on Russian television about the alleged abuse of children."
"Ukraine will not allow taking our children, lying about them, and distributing nonsense scary stories to the world created by the Kremlin manipulators. Journalists who make these stories will be denied the right to "tour" Ukraine. We will appeal to the world to condemn the authors and ideologues of such "journalism," Herashchenko said.
