Netanyahu said the military's primary goal would be to destroy underground tunnels used by Hamas to attack the Jewish State. The announcement came hours after Israeli ground troops and tanks struck more than 100 terror targets in Israel's first major ground offensive in Gaza in just over five years.
“Since there is no way to deal with the tunnels only from the air, our soldiers are doing it now from the ground," Netanyahu said at the opening of an emergency cabinet meeting in Tel Aviv, the Jerusalem Post reported. “We decided to launch the action after we tried all the other ways, and with an understanding that without this operation the price we will have to pay later would be much higher."

Great news!! All of the pressure from conservatives who refuse to “shut up” and support an operation limited to destruction of the tunnels is having its effect.
While the real pressure is coming from the vast majority of Israelis, those lovers of Israel who are abroad can help as well by explaining how insufficient and ultimately ineffective this operation will be if it is limited to destroying tunnels on the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip.

You and I agree that destruction of the tunnels is the most urgent task of the IDF, other than taking out missile launch sites that are about to be deployed and deflecting missiles that already are in the air.
It will be a lost opportunity for Israel to stop there.
Particularly now that the world’s attention is turned to the destruction of the Malaysian airplane, Egypt has terminated its support for the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliate, Hamas, and Syria has not facilitated Hezballah’s opening up of a northern front in this war, now is the time for Israel to go full throttle and wipe out the Hamas infrastructure.
This will not happen unless Israel’s supporters vocally encourage Israel to do more, and counteract the pressure that the Obama administration is putting on Netanyahu to contain the operation.
The “Day of The Lord” comes when the Messiah of Israel comes to set up his one-world government on this earth. You’ll know when that happens ... and it isn’t today ... :-) ...

Finding the tunnels probably isn’t easy, South Korea deals with that too. The US dealt with that on the southern border too.

You know, I don’t believe I have much influence (in fact, absolutely none) with Israel and its government, with Netanyahu as Prime Minister.
I look at myself as primarily an observer here, and then, an explainer. I like seeing things “as they are” and not so much as one wishes they were.
In the long run, I know that it’s the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who has Israel in his hands, so I’m not so worried about Israel, “ultimately”. But, in the “interim” there will be progress and then setbacks.
All I will be doing through all this is to get an accurate picture of “what is” even when it doesn’t fit what many people “wish it was”.
I’m only the observer and just letting people know the “reality” of the situation.
I really am not worried in the least for the long-term viability of Israel. And what I know in the end, is that the Messiah of Israel returns to earth and sets up the one-world government, ruling over all the nations of this earth, from his seat of government in Jerusalem. And this will be within the lifetime of many who are alive today, so we’re not talking about something very far into the future.
If you see yourself as just an observer, letting people know the reality of the situation, then why do you spend so much time on this website demanding that people stop their discussions and “SHUT UP”? Besides being contrary to my understanding of the principles of Free Republic, it is anti-democratic because it helps the decision-makers to make choices without input from conservatives. It also is naive at best: the left manufactures astroturf dissent to effectuate policy, and you are bullying conservatives into keeping quiet. (By bullying, I mean calling them Nazis and extremists, accusing them of being fifth columnists aiding Islamo-fascists, and ridiculing — instead of simply disagreeing with — those conservative men of principle like Danon, Bennett and Lieberman who take a stand.)

He also says U.S. and allies are concerned about risk of escalation in Gaza conflict, adds that Kerry is prepared to return to the region if needed. He said he was hopeful that Israel will continue to approach the process in a way that minimizes civilian casualties. He told reporters after the call that he expressed his support for Israel’s Gaza ground incursion, saying, “And that’s why we’ve indicated although we support military efforts by the Israelis to make sure that rockets are not being fired into their territory, we also have said that our understanding is the current military ground operations are designed to deal with the tunnels.” His use of the word support is unusual, and limited.

An observer (and that’s how you gather the information) and am explainer (and that’s where the posting comes in).
It is absolutely “key” that before anyone can take whatever action they want to themselves (of all the readers here) is that they have to know very accurately the “WHAT IS” of the situation. That’s absolutely a key and essential ingredient that precedes any effective action.
The backing from Obama is a smokescreen. The real reason for the call was to warn Netanyahu not to hurt Arabs.
Let’s call things as they are and not as we want them to be.

NEW YORK — Ambassador Ron Dermer, Israel’s chief diplomatic representative in the U.S., asked some 700 American Jews on a conference call this week for their help shifting the messaging on Israel. Israel is being routinely portrayed in both conventional and social media as an angry, well-armed giant leaving many innocent victims in its wake during the current crisis with Hamas, Dermer said.
The call was organized by the Jewish Federations of North America, which this week sent federation leaders to visit targeted towns in Israel, and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. Dermer told his audience that Hamas may be winning the war over public opinion, as Israel is vilified for the civilian casualties its bombs cause in Gaza, while Hamas is not being blamed for instructing Palestinians to stay in their homes – even when they have been warned by the IDF that the locations will be bombed imminently.
“Hamas is putting its missile batteries and command centers next to schools and hospitals. That is a major war crime. While we are doing everything possible to keep civilians out of harms way, Hamas is trying to put their people into harms way. Gaza’s interior minister said people should ignore warnings and go back into their homes. We are taking action to minimize to the greatest extent possible number of civilian casualties, they are doing everything to maximize it.”

We need to make ABSOLUTELY CLEAR when we talk about and support Israel, that it is NOT engaging in a GENOCIDAL CAMPAIGN against the Palestinian civilians - but that it’s HAMAS who is.
We must be STRONGLY EMPHATIC that Israel does NOT COMMIT WAR CRIMES against Palestinian civilians and explain the ways that Israel goes about avoiding collateral damage, while strongly attacking Hamas and its missiles that are flying into Israel.
If you believe that Israel should commit war crimes and engage in a GENOCIDAL CAMPAIGN against Palestinians — then just SHUT UP! ... because you’re doing Israel no favor with your genocidal talk!
“Wishful thinking” is something that is made up inside one’s head that is not reported or stated or given by “facts on the ground”.
The support is clearly stated, anything further than, in which no further facts are given in the present situation is either wishful thinking or speculation.
Israel doing a good job of creating good Muslims. Dead Muslim = good Muslim! This problem there will not be solved until they are all good Muslims!
With Israel it’s “dead Islamic Terrorist” ... and in today’s events, that’s Hamas.
In no situation with Israel is it ever “dead Palestinian” as in wanton and indiscriminate killing. Israel does not commit war crimes.
