There’s also an argument to be made that if you know a policy or course of action is ultimately doomed to failure but everyone else seems determined to follow it, the best thing to do is arrange for it to fail as soon and as spectacularly as possible.
There is that argument. I would rather keep America alive long enough to fight to find a cure. I am one who does not want it to fail spectacularly. Some do not understand the implications of the collapse.
