I think she is a real hero who will inspire others not to be embarrassed and ashamed or to hide their particular physical challenge. Just knowing that someone can have a severe insulin problem and still have the energy required to stay fit and compete is inspirational! Yahoo and Free Republic are also real heroes for reporting on this. We need more of this type of story one that celebrates whats right with the world as opposed to what is wrong always.
Despite the obvious appeal of a “good news” story, there are a lot of cynical posters on Yahoo and elsewhere who are criticizing her and her decision, impugning her motives and just generally disagreeing. I suspect that they are the ones that run to watch the news at 5 PM to consume the typically bad-news stories.
To finish on a positive note, there are probably some other heroes hidden in this story. Next to their love, SELF-CONFIDENCE is the biggest gift a parent can give to a child. It wouldn’t surprise me there’s a mother or father in the background who gave that great gift to her!
