Russian Approval of Putin Soars to Highest Level in Years

Ratings of U.S., European Union leadership sink to record lows, in single digits

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Vladimir Putin's popularity in Russia is now at its highest level in years, likely propelled by a groundswell of national pride with the annexation of Crimea in March on the heels of the Sochi Olympic Games in February. The 83% of Russians saying they approve of Putin's leadership in late April/early June ties his previous high rating in 2008 when he left office the first time.

The 29-percentage-point increase in Putin's job approval between 2013 and 2014 suggests he has solidified his previously shaky support base. For the first time since 2008, a majority of Russians (73%) believe their country's leadership is leading them in the right direction. This renewed faith is apparent in their record-level confidence in the country's military (78%), their national government (64%), and honesty of elections (39%).

What a sad state of affairs. The President of the United States is worse than the President of Russia (and the President of the U.S. is probably more of a liberal too!!). Who would have ever thought something like THAT would happen....

Well Obama was right about the reset thing.

Puti’s back to where he was when Obama showed up.

Almost an inverse correlation to what is happening for the Current Occupant now squatting in the White Hut. As Putin’s overall approval numbers soar, the numbers for The Won tank almost at the same rate.

Can we swap Maximum Leaders with the Russians? Although, why would the Russian even WANT to take the deal?

Obama could only dream of 83% approval. And, I bet at one time he did. He thought the sound of his own voice would be enough to sway those who didn’t vote for him in 2008.

We never even had trials for those murderous brutal people, no wonder they love Putin as he rebuilds their empire.

Do you seriously think Gallup can take a poll without KGB advisers sitting in the room with the poor citizen selected to take this poll !

Who paid for the Gallup Putin popularity poll ?..

Let me guess , the KGB run Russia Today .

Russia is a Police state just like China .

Exactly, the Russian butchers who enslaved and murdered at will half of Europe walked away without even a slap on the hand.

Both Hitler and Stalin had admirers here in the USofA prior to WWII. Chew on that for a bit.

“The President of the United States is worse than the President of Russia...”

That’s a fact. President Buckwheat is on track to be the most hated man in America. That will upset the neo-con trolls here on FR, but who cares.

So it turns out that the Russians aren’t as dumb as 51% of American voters.

I know a number of Russians.

The FUNNY THING is that they are pretty much like us. They want their kids to have a country to grow up in. They want a STABLE place for everyone - they do not “appreciate” the “gorgeous mosaic” of 3rd World types blowing up their subways or otherwise killing their kids.

I know. Believe me, I know. I am supposed to HATE Putin because our present administration has problems with him.

But I’m not there yet...maybe others can tell me where I’m wrong.

I got this article from a friend of mine. He's married to a Lithuanian. Much of her family still lives in and around Vilnius. They don't much care for the Russians, but they know them very well, and she would very much agree with you. She told me that contrary to what we hear from some Russians who get a lot of time in the US press, Putin is genuinely popular, and has been his whole reign.

To say that Lithuanians don’t like Russians is a serious understatement...but I know what you mean.

But yea, exactly, from what I can tell, if you don’t actively oppose the government there, life is better and freer than it has been for a very long time, maybe forever.

From what I hear people actually, now, SMILE in Russia. They didn’t do that during the czar days and they certainly didn’t do that during their Communist days.
