SAN FRANCISCO Already locked in its third dry year, an ongoing drought could complicate California's battle against global warming and make it more expensive, officials said.
For years, dams have been one of California's main sources of clean energy, generating power without spewing greenhouse gases into the air.
"If there's less hydro, the power has to come from somewhere," said Victor Niemeyer of the Electric Power Research Institute. "You have to burn more gas, and that costs more money."
A power plant operator that uses more natural gas, raising its emissions, must make up by buying "allowances" under the state's cap-and-trade system, also running up costs that are passed onto consumers.

I’m sure that California will find some way to continue their global warming efforts.
No. Absolutely not. If you feel that strongly about it, simply go without.
Hahahahahaha!
I am sure it is the other way around, California clean energy goals exacerbate drought.
The water board is fining people for wasting water and the air boards are fining people for not controlling dust.
Wasting water = using water.
A power plant operator that uses more natural gas, raising its emissions, must make up by buying “allowances” under the state’s cap-and-trade system, also running up costs that are passed onto consumers.
Eventually consumers will no longer be able to, or will no longer tolerate such logic, or both, if it can be called logic
Eventually their crazy allowances system will bring the whole CA economy to a standstill. The Libs will be dancing in the street.
Ironic that they didn’t have the drought until they unleashed the full force of the environmentalists and government regulations to reduce carbon emissions in the war against global warming.
The water board is fining people for wasting water and the air boards are fining people for not controlling dust.”
And the HOA’s are fining people for not watering their lawn and allowing their grass to die which, when the wind blows, will create more dust.
can you say NUCLEAR ?????
can you say NUCLEAR ?????
Yes, I can! And none of all these moves to electric cars will make any sense at all until we have nuclear power to provide the electricity. Burning fossil fuels in a stationary power plant is marginally less polluting than doing it directly in an IC engine, but when you factor in generating efficiencies and transmission losses to get the power to the charging station, coupled with the efficiency of the electric propulsion system in the vehicle, you are better off, just buying a car with an IC engine unless you get the juice from a nuke!
Come on! You’re using facts and logic, two things that liberal elites are incapable of understanding. I totally agree, by the way.
This leads one to the obvious conclusion (except for Donkey politicians and environmentalists): there are power shortages of massive proportions coming with rolling brownouts and blackouts. Welcome to the third world Californians. Hey, all you illegal aliens, welcome back to the kind of mismanaged state that you thought you'd left behind. Will the last business leaving California please turn out the lights (assuming there's power). Don't bother locking the door because the illegals and entitlement classes are fighting over the body.
BFL
Or maybe God does.
