CARRICK, Pa. A deadly home invasion was reported in Carrick early Tuesday morning near the set of a Hollywood movie being filmed in the area.
Police said the invasion happened around 2:20 a.m. on Merritt Avenue.
Channel 11s Brandon Hudson reported that the victim opened fire on the two men accused of breaking into his home, killing one and critically injuring the other.
Detectives said the men demanded the victims belongings, but instead he pulled out a shotgun and opened fire.
Investigators said one of the men tried to run away after he was shot, but fell as he was trying to flee.
The incident happened in the same neighborhood where crews are filming Southpaw, starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
Southpaw is about a boxer who fights his way to the top, only to find his life falling apart around him, according to the Internet Movie Database.

He fired an effective warning shot. The survivor heeded the warning and tried to run away.

OSHA should get involved. This is related to workplace hazards. I wonder why OSHA has not tried to ban guns in residences ̣(burglars' workplaces) yet.

While filming in Carrick, the product crew turned Merritt Avenue into Brady Avenue for the movie. (Which confused police.)
Boy, do we have a bunch of idiot cops around here or what?
Most likely they were born and raised in Pittsburgh, and have been patrolling Carrick for at least a year, yet changing the street sign on Merrick Ave. throws them off?
I am generally very sympathetic to law enforcement, but my last encounter with city cops left me highly unimpressed. I walked away asking myself "seriously, are these the cops from The Simpsons?"

>>I imagine eventually we will know names and races of the perps.<<
“Channel 11s Brandon Hudson reported the dead man was identified as David Calhoun. According to the Associated Press, the wounded suspect is 27-year-old Christopher Thomas, of Pittsburgh. He is in critical condition at UPMC Mercy hospital.”

You guys are absolutely right and I got the wrong impression! The victim of the robbery stopped shooting when he became a non-victim.

Turns out it was just a work-related injury. -snicker- :-)
