Two U.S. airlines suspend Israel flights after rocket attack near airport [FAA suspends all flights]

7:41 P.M. The FAA prohibits all U.S. airlines from flying to and from Ben-Gurion International Airport "for a period of up to 24 hours."

5:57 P.M. Delta Airlines and U.S. Airways suspend flights to and from Israel on Tuesday. This follows a warning from the Federal Aviation Authority given after a rocket fell earlier Tuesday in Yehud, near Ben-Gurion International Airport. United Airlines announced it will continue operating as usual.

A Delta Airlines flight from New York to Israel landed in Paris following the decision. U.S. Air has relocated planes currently at Ben-Gurion airport tonight's planned flight has been canceled. (Zohar Blumenkrantz)

Define "war zone." Yes, it is true that liability has a big role, however flights are still operating into Kiev, as they are Bagdad. This is not new.

You are quoting Haaretz? Sheesh. The FAA does not do that kind of stuff. The DOT has authority to suspend multilateral agreements, not the FAA. It is like saying the US Department of State has forbidding all travel to Israel. It is true that they have issued opinion, but it does not "forbid."

I am intimately familiar with the FAA. I deal with them for a living.

Yeah, the York Dispatch. it may seem like a technicality, but it bugs me when folks who are not in the airline industry believe when press reports something based upon an misunderstanding of how things work in the aviation industry.

Suffice it to say, the US government has interjected itself into the conflict and are attempting to hurt Israel. Politics. Flights operating into Tel Aviv during the entire 2006, and 2010 conflict, with THOUSANDS of rockets from BOTH Lebanon and Gaza.

OK, so here is the deal, and it is highly unusual. The FAA's does not forbid airlines from exercising multilateral agreements. So what the weasels did was forbid pilots from exercising their airman privileges into Israeli airspace. it effectively shuts down US operators (airlines). I can tell you that this proves the purely political nature of this. Here is the text. Forgive the FAA's crappy formatting.

I think you’re confusing Hamas in Gaza with the Palestinian Authority in Judea and Samaria.

Or you’re confusing humanitarian aid for the Palestinian civilians with aid to Hamas in Gaza. Israel makes a distinction between Palestinian civilians and Hamas, the terrorist organization.

In the above NOTAM you will also see that the US restricts tail numbers registered in the US. Any foreign airline that operates a leased aircraft registered in the US cannot operate in Israeli airspace for 24 hours. Again, weasel action by King Hussein Obama.
