In a sensational press release issued Tuesday afternoon, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) claimed that he had evidence that the Internal Revenue Service destroyed a computer belonging to a key figure in the IRS targeting scandal despite being told by experts that its data was recoverable. Camp also insinuated that the original damage to the computer was done intentionally.

It’s nice sitting back and watching these lies unravel. Looking forward to someone coming out soon and telling all. The pressure must be getting hard to bear for anyone included in this cover-up who was just doing what they were told.

Only fundamentally decent people are bothered by their conscience.

Nobody on the left is bothered by a conscience

One might occasionally slip trough the net and get employed by the IRS :)

The thing is, Learner is a ditz. IMO there is no way she could have pulled that Drive from her desktop and figure out how to open it up and take her eyebrow tweezer to it. Which begs the question who did. Seems the IT folks didn’t want to go the extra mile at any point, so my guess is some low to mid level Nuts and Bolts IT guy(s) were given the directive. But Learner would have been working with someone higher up to hatch the plan.

As in Watergate, investigators are focusing on the cover-up, rather than the original crime.

An IT person responsible for data recovery recommended the drive be sent off to data recovery experts, but it wasn't. If the computer user tells IT they didn't lose anything important, they aren't going to send the drive off.

The hard drive crash should have been reported to the National Archives. It is not clear who is suppose to make the report. The IT people could make a report that it crashed, but wouldn't be able to say what important documents were lost. So I am guessing it was up to the computer user or their department to make the report.

Hard drives have a label glued on over at least a couple of the screws you have to remove to get the cover off. It would be nearly impossible to get into it to scratch the platters without it being obvious it was tampered with.

I think they replaced her hard drive with one from another computer that was crashed before they handed it over to the techs.

The techs could then testify that they found the drive was damaged, but recovering the data would have revealed that it wasn't her hard drive.

Once you take the cover off a HD, it pretty much done. I suspect the "scratch" is a bad section of the HD where the head crashed into the platter. Many laptops have motion detectors in them that idle the HD when subtle movement is detected. A quick sharp blow would be detected, but not in time to prevent "some" damage.

While this is undoubtebly true, it doesn’t matter as any e-mails should/would have been backed up. The head-fake about the hard drive is just that. Any corporation, business or person that tried this with any of the alphabet agencies would be in a world of hurt.
