La Joya (KNVO) — It was a terrifying situation in a Texas border town as authorities exchanged gunfire with a murder suspect.

Border patrol agents were under fire as they tried to arrest a man in La Joya, on the Rio Grande River near the Gulf of Mexico. Two law enforcement officers were shot, but both are expected to recover.

Authorities said the man was wanted for a murder in Edinburg. He was also believed to be a member of the notorious "Texas Syndicate" prison gang.

The gunman had barricaded himself in an apartment and fired at sheriff's deputies and border patrol agents who surrounded him

At least there was a happy ending: “Officials said the gunman was killed in the standoff.”

I realize the authors of this copy were simply trying to convey the general location of La Joya, Texas, but I'm not sure I would characterize a spot eighty (80) miles away from a known landmark to be "near" it. La Joya is a full 80 miles from the nearest coastal point on the Gulf of Mexico. Another way of looking at it: If you're driving from Port Isabel to Laredo, Texas...by the time you get to La Joya, you're almost halfway there.

What’s with the Dallas Police patrol car? It is jacked way up in the back and it’s a low rider in the front.

What about the report (video) that said the Border Patrol is not armed and not allowed to have ammunition?
