Israel opens airport in Negev as alternative to Ben-Gurion
Haaretz ^ | Wednesday, July 23, 2014 | Zohar Blumenkrantz

Ovda, a military airfield, has opened after the FAA and the European Aviation Safety Agency temporarily canceled all flights to Israel due to a Hamas rocket attack on Tuesday.

Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz announced on Wednesday that Israel would be opening the Ovda Airport as an alternative to Ben-Gurion Airport. In practical terms, this means that foreign airlines that wish to land there instead of at Ben-Gurion Airport will be able to do so. No airline that operates at Ben-Gurion Airport has given its approval or agreement to move its flights to Ovda Airport as yet.

The idea of opening Ovda Airport as an alternative to Ben-Gurion Airport was raised about two weeks ago by the CEOs of the three Israeli airlines — El Al, Israir and Arkia — in a meeting with Uzi Itzhaki, the director-general of the Transportation Ministry in Jerusalem. The proposal was turned down on the grounds that Ben-Gurion Airport was prepared, in terms of security, for continued regular operation and that it could maintain its operation in case of an emergency.

When John Kerry hears the Israelis have another airport open for business, he’ll look for some international law they are now violating. As if, Obama wasn’t already in violation of a dozen or so American laws. Glass Houses, Johnny.

That’s good. Of course, the best thing would be to wipe Hamas off the face of the earth and never have to worry about it again...

I just hope the FAA hasn't give Hammas the blueprint for shutting down air traffic to Israel.

Keep in mind here ... that we’re talking about airlines, themselves, who have suspended operations to Tel Aviv. If you just get those particular airlines flying again, Kerry would have nothing to do with it.

Hamas knew this “blueprint” a long time ago ... it’s just that they couldn’t reach it before.

Mazal tov! Don’t tell me that FAA isn’t acting under orders of Obama in order to put pressure on Israel. European countries are flying in to the airport near Eilat. The US suddenly decided to ban flights to Israel because of one missile. They knew missiles landed much farther away near Haifa last week and they didn’t ban planes.mI cannot believe how American Jews can sit there and say and do nothing Are you so cowed by a president who hates your guts but is quite willing to accept your money? are you so afraid of not appearing so “politically correct” that your mouths are sealed. US Jews have no problem ever complaining before about presidents, Democrats or Republican. Jews in the US are sitting too terrified to say anything against their obvious hero who they voted in not once, but twice! I thought the US was the country of no anti-Semitism, where everything is paradise. I guess if you keep saying the mantra long enough you actually start believing the lie.

Air Canada cancels Tel Aviv flight over safety concerns
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3184119/posts?page=6#6

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/israel-gaza-conflict-air-canada-cancels-tel-aviv-flight-over-safety-concerns-1.2714488

Air Canada has cancelled its scheduled flight to Tel Aviv from Toronto Tuesday night, following the lead of other airlines concerned about rocket fire near Ben Gurion Airport.

Air Canada had a flight scheduled to leave for Tel Aviv from Toronto at 6:10 p.m. ET. The airline will continue to evaluate the situation and provide updates as needed, a spokeswoman said.

The return flight to Toronto from Tel Aviv for Wednesday, July 23, has also been cancelled, the carrier confirmed.

In response to a CBC News query, Transport Canada said the suspensions of flights to Israel are decisions taken by airlines themselves.

“For more information you should contact the carriers directly,” senior communications adviser Ben Stanford said in an email to CBC News.

Delta Air Lines and United Airlines also suspended flights to Israel indefinitely Tuesday after a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip landed near Tel Aviv’s airport, wounding one Israeli.

As the article says, it’s a “score” for Hamas, and that’s unfortunate, but these airlines were canceling flights on their own, even before the FAA ever uttered a word.

Israel Transportation Minister: Cancellation of Flights to Israel Gives a ‘Prize to Terror’
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3183687/posts?page=35

http://www.algemeiner.com/2014/07/22/israel-transportation-minister-cancellation-of-u-s-flights-to-israel-is-a-prize-to-terror/

On Tuesday, four major U.S. airline carriers announced their decision to cancel flights heading to Israel indefinitely, one specifically citing the danger of Gaza rocket attacks near Israel’s Ben Gurion airport.

Shortly afterwards, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it told all U.S. airlines that flights to the airport are prohibited for 24 hours, according to The Associated Press.

From another thread here ...

Germany’s Lufthansa on Wednesday suspended flights to and from Tel Aviv for an additional 24 hours. The decision also applies to Germanwings, Austrian Airlines, Swiss and Brussels Airlines.

“At the present time no adequate authoritative new information is available that would justify a resumption of flights. In close coordination with the responsible authorities Lufthansa is continually evaluating the safety situation for its total flight network,” the company said.

Before Obama, I would have quickly agreed with you, but now, the country is being run more in the manner of Venezualea than the United States. Now, the Government directly influences most of the jumbo corporations that effect us every day.

Jumbo corporations now in bed with Obama include, Google, Facebook, MainStream Media, Health Insurance, Patenting Boards, MicroSoft, NFL (lgbt-friendly or die!),NSA, EPA, TSA, Oh, did I mention the I.R.S.? It’s a crowded bed for sure. These and other organizations have become a bought and paid for arm of not just the Democrat Party, but the Obama White House. I do not know if this will ever be reversed to any great degree. Even if we can get a Republican as next President, he’s going to see some advantage to acting as Puppet-Master for all these ‘Liar for Hire” groups and keep some vestiges of the new power structure.

Maybe. This may all be LIB based, and for a GOP President, there may be absolutely no insider relationship whatsoever. For some of these groups GOP= W.Bush, who they still love to hate even now.

That doesn’t explain all the other airlines like Air Canada and Lufthansa and the Polish airlines ... they are all from other countries.
