The purge of Christians from northern Iraq continues under the hands of the Sunni jihadist group, the Islamic State--formerly the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). ISIS militants seized the famous Mar Behnam or St. Behnam monastery this week, a fourth century Christian landmark, and forced monks to leave immediately.

According to the Agence France-Presse, the monastery, a famous landmark of early Christianity, is now fully in the hands of ISIS jihadists

...

The monastery itself is one of the oldest monuments in the history of Christianity

Wow! Do you hear the deafening outcry against this violation of human rights from our “peaceful” muzzies and liberals?

Almost as vehement as their protest against their perceived impression of Israel’s massacre of Palestinians.

What's appalling is that us average everyday no-account online posters saw ISIS for what it was, when they first marched out of their strongholds. Yet those who could've done something lacked the foresight, integrity, intelligence or ability to respond to fast-moving unexpected events. If any military power in the area had any one of those things, ISIS would've been blown off the planet before they even got to Mosul.

It's pretty disgusting. Is the US still arming rebels in Syria? Is anyone looking at the Pali/Israel mess in terms of the danger of ISIS getting into those war-torn areas?

Meanwhile, the US can't get ONE SOLDIER released from a Mexican prison. Goodluck Johnson's "government refuses to do anything to protect Christians, and the global Sounds of Silence are astounding.

And what is the US lusting for...all out war so an excuse for a gov in Kiev can overtake a region that won't accept them.

It has been a large Christian community in Iraq, since Europeans lived in caves, let alone America.

You’re kidding, surely. I don’t remember the merdia (a typo, but let it pass) discussing this in the ramp up to Iraqi Freedom. Was anyone at FR agonizing over what might happen to the Christians of the middle east? Did anyone here even know they existed (that’s past tense)? I’m pretty sure everyone here couldn’t wait to get Iraq all liberated and democratic. Isn’t it time for them to take a victory lap? It’s “Mission Accomplished”!

They’ll blow it up...

I see they blew up the Jonah monastery that was built back in the 8th Century...

They are on a roll...

I seem to recall the US was warned and chided for even looking near ANY religious site during our campaigns back in the day...

I wonder why no condemnation is coming the way of these schmups??? (rhetorical comment, filled to the brim with sarcasm)

"It has been a large Christian community in Iraq, since Europeans lived in caves, let alone America."

It has been many thousands of years since "Europeans lived in caves". European civilization dates back at least 5,000 years. Stonehenge for example was constructed by one of the more backward peoples of Europe somewhere between 3,000 BC to 2,000 BC or about the same time the Egyptians were building the Great Pyramids. Cave paintings stopped around 15,000 BC in most of Europe but continued until around 10,000 BC in Spain. It is therefor safe to concluded that around 15000 BC Europeans began constructing building to live in. Christianity on the other hand dates from 100-200 AD. At most 2,000 years old.

I'll also note that caves make excellent dwellings particularly in times of severe cold. The Earth once you go down a dozen feet or so is a constant temperature. The temp varies with depth, the further down the warmer. So if we remember that the last ice age ended 12 to 15k years ago one can (and should) view living in caves at northern latitudes during an ice age as a most sensible thing to do. Living in caves spared early Europeans the chore of gathering wood for heating allowing them to spend more time hunting for food.
